    Key fob program problem

Okay, I ran into a little problem today. I recently purchased a new key fob for my 2006 SRT Coupe. I read the directions in the manual and was successful programming the new fob. However, the original fob stopped working when I programed the new one. So I repeated the process, and again had the exact same results, except now the old fob worked again and the new fob did not. I finally realized that I might have to reprogram all of the fobs once in the program mode instead of just the nonfunctional one and I was going to try that when I ran into a problem.

The car now refuses to go into programming mode. When I hold down the unlock button for five seconds and then press and hold the panic button for one second, and release together it does not beep. I'm kind of dumbfounded because it worked 3 times and now he refuses to beep/go into program mode. The new fob now works but my original one does not and I cannot get it to go into program mode to try and program both of them again.

I have tried removing the battery cables for several hours and reconnecting them, but I got the same problem. Any suggestions

    RKE TRANSMITTER PROGRAMING
New Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitters can be programed using the DRB III® scan tool and the proper Diagnostic procedures manual if no functioning transmitter is available.
With the DRB III® select BODY, BODY COMPUTER, MISCELLANEOUS, then PROGRAM RKE. Follow instructions on the screen.
The following procedure can be used as long as one functioning transmitter is available:

    1.
Using a functional key fob transmitter, unlock the vehicle and disarm the Vehicle Theft Security System.

    2.
Insert ignition key into the ignition switch.

    3.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN position without starting engine.

    4.
Using a functional key fob transmitter, press and hold the UNLOCK button for a minimum five seconds (maximum ten seconds).

    5.
While still holding UNLOCK button, and before ten seconds passes, press the PANIC button and release both at the same time. A single chime will sound to indicate that the transmitter programming mode has been entered (allow 3 seconds for chime to sound).

    6.
Within 30 seconds of the chime, press and release the “LOCK” and “UNLOCK” buttons on the transmitter at the same time. Then press and release any button on the same transmitter and a chime will sound after successfully programming the transmitter.

    7.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 for all transmitters that will be used with this vehicle (up to 4 total).

    8.
Turn ignition to the OFF position. Transmitter programming mode will discontinue after 60 seconds. All transmitter programming must be completed within time specified.

    Gen III is entirely different.

I can't get past step #5, the system will not beep and is not acknowledging that I'm doing anything except unlocking the door.

I also forgot to mention that it seems the check engine light is now flashing after approximately 10 to 15 seconds for a short time. The manual says this means the emissions or OBD is not working. Although the manual also says it might be due to a battery failure or a battery disconnect which I did on purpose while trying to fix this key fob programming issue. However, I have driven it approximately 100 miles and the light is still flashing with the key in the on position.

I do not have a check engine light when driving though.

The strangest part is the programming worked 3 times and then stopped working. I'm beginning to think the car felt that I was a slow learner and gave up trying LOL.

I uploaded a quick video that I made tonight showing the check engine light. There's nothing I can get on video for the key fob issue because it's not doing anything any more other than unlocking my doors. Sorry for the video being made vertically, I just had shoulder surgery on Monday so that's about as good as I can get right now LOL.

Big thanks to Steve for trying to help me this morning. Sorry again for all the distractions; it was kind of hectic.

Disconnect the battery for 5 min. Reconnect and drive the car. Should reset.

Nothing new to report. I've taken it on several drives, but no success thus far.
