Considering putting in a roll cage

    Hi All......

I just got a '16 ACR-X that basically replaces a 1982 March 821 F1 car that I have been running for the past few years. Super successful overall but cost per day just got stupid. So I was wondering about roll bar/cage installs. One of the fun parts of running the March was doing test days. Yes I know there are numerous track day events and I plan on doing that with the ACR, however, being able to run full bore with racers that have a clearer understanding of rules of the road will be much safer. To participate in actual track test days, tracks require the car to be up to SCCA Race Spec. This means a role bar/cage as the main issue.

So has anybody put one in and/or maybe knows if there are any that have been developed as a kit install?

This is a great Forum and it has been very informative just reading through the whole thing. Much more pleasant than the typical forum that is full of wantabies, no matter what the forum is about. I guess Viper owners are more intelligent than most.

    Q.

Venom V is probably the guy to talk to on this. Northern California member. He has a nice one in his ACR and spends a lot of time at the track. Try searching for a thread about because I remember seeing it when he put it in.

    Good luck. Enjoy.

I'm not aware of any kits for the gen V but I recall seeing pictures of Hot Rod magazine having their cage built for last year's Pikes Peak run in the ACR-E. I think the article said who built the cage. I'll have to try and find it.

Update: looks like it was handled by a shop in North Carolina.

Venom's is a roll bar not a cage. So it is not SCCA legal.

I would call Ross at Exoticraft or Toddy at Big Boyz Garage. They would know. Both are out of town for a couple weeks.

You might ask Ted at Valaya. He has a gen 3 acr clone with a full cage sitting in the shop. I don't know much about it. He might.

TC Design in Campbell builds cages. I know they have done many BMW race cars. Not sure about a Viper though.

Dan Fiffick at McCann Racing in Canton Ohio has been building Viper race Cars for years. They have done 6 Gen V builds so far.

Thanks all for the input. It must be fun to watch someone getting into one with a full cage.

Ya know what, you're right. I think my mind automatically went "bar" over cage just because for most events a bar is sufficient. Thanks for pointing that out.

Doesn't his extend back into the hatch a bit, so it's not just upright?

Either way I was wrong. I've not seen a full cage on a street V.
