    Gen3 vs Gen4 front cover

does anyone know if the Gen4 front cover has any upgrade built into it over the Gen3 front cover like a better oil pump. I have changed the heads and cam and have assess to a gen4 cover just wondering if its worth the change thanks.

Gen 4 cover has a much better oil pump. The Gen 3 cover has a hole in it for a cam sensor. The gen 4 does not. You would need a hole in the correct area and of the correct depth.

Most Gen 3 guys just do the newer pan, swing arm and modified pick up tube for this reason

can you swap the oil pumps from one cover to the other so the gen3 cover would have the better oil pump?

I have done the oil pan and swing arm conversion

You can't swap just the oil pumps.
RSI does sell a kit with a larger pump , but you will need to give them your housing to have it machined as a matched set. I think it was $1500 U.S. And I believe it gives you 40% more volume.
But as Garrett has mentioned most of us do the pan and pick up upgrade.
With your heads and cam how much power are you making to the wheels ?
    Thanks !

I am just finishing the cam and head install now, I also did the adjustable timing chain the kit came from A/C Performance with the C&C stage 3 ported heads and cam. I also did the oil pan and swing arm pickup and high flow cats and 3" Billy Boat exhaust and a roe throttle body and K&n air filter. Im going to get a tune from Todd and hoping for around 575-600 at the rear wheels but I also have 355 gears so that will bring it down a bit. I will dyno it in the spring. I had Chris K helping me but we did have some trouble lining up the timing marks they always wanted to be half a tooth out one way or the other. The crank timing gear is set to 2 degrees advanced as advised by Todd at A/C. Its been a fun project and I have leaned a lot. In the process I found my drivers side motor mount was in two pieces and my crank pully had a crack in it. So I bought poly motor mounts and trans mount, but after reading some posts i'm only going to install the poly motor mount on the drivers side and leave the passenger side rubber to help with vibration

You're in good hands with Chris . I did poly mount on Drivers side and transmission mount . It was a good compromise for street/track use .
Looking forward to hear your final numbers !

SRT engineers in the past have suggested to run two quarts extra oil in track or heavy G environments. This will help prevent pump cavitation, which the Gen III pump has a hard time overcoming once it starts. Basically run the oil level at the "top" of the full mark on the dipstick. Just had a buddy eat his number 3 rod bearing because of "too little" oil. That all said, I always run mine at the top of the stick. In the Viper engine, there seems to be no issue with doing this. Wish I had the link to the SRT Engineer's statement, but I do not.

We offer a conversion package to install the Gen-4 cover/pump on a Gen-3. However, it is rather expensive as it includes just about half an engine worth of components. New cover, pump, PR valve, water pump, belt, alternator, pan, pickup damper, etc...

    Hi Dan,

Do you have a picture of a Gen 4 cover with your mod and a cam sensor in it?

Yes they are... just need to look harder, haha; http://viperspecialtyperformance.com...products_id=96

And the sensor is Motorsports grade and partially custom made, certainly not something an OEM would ever supply lol.
