Cool Has anyone patched a Kumho ACR tire I have a screw in mine 200 mile on tire

So I was driving my 2016 ACR with factory Kumho ACR tires ( the car has 200 miles on it ) and of course I ran over a sheet metal screw..I swear I am like a magnet to nails and screws on my cars.... Its about 3 inches away from the inner side wall , so it on the flat part of the tread.... I have patched newer tires on regular treads before on everyday vehicles, but was not sure about this tire scene it is almost a slick....Hate to throw away $ 400 bucks on a new tire when I can get it patched for free at Discount tire...They use a plug with a built on patch ..but was not sure for high speed saftey..also I did drive the car at 20 lbs tire pressure for about a half mile before I noticed it was low..Was not sure if 20 lbs is low enough air pressure to damage the side wall..I know driving with low tire pressure can damage the sidewall.. ... also what torque for the lugs do you recommend for the ACR .. standerd torque for the Viper wheel is 107 LBS according to the viper manual..was not sure if the the torque for the ACR was different..thanks for any input.... i have a nail in 1 of my corsas on my srt and have held 180-185mph for at least 15 secs with nail in, since the acr cant reach that speed im sure youre fine with a patch. But considering its a kumho may be different result?

I ran a patch in a corsa for a few thousand miles (no track time though). I'm sure the tire itself will be fine, but in the back of your mind you will always have a little doubt. Thats what made me just buy new rears. At least your car is new enough that you can get away with only buying one tire.

I don't see any problem with a proper patch if the car is only used on the street. But I wouldn't track a patched tire. Just watch the pressure.
    I torque to 100#.

I had my left rear Corsa plugged last year after I picked up a nail. No issues, it was fine until I replaced my whole set this past spring (not because of the patch but because of mileage. Not sure about the Kumhos though - not sure that I would track one with a patch or plug. Some guys will say OK though.

It's holding pressure with the nail? Or just not loosing enough to make it worth fixing? The nail is acting as its own patch I guess.

The problem is that the nail can come out at any time.

OK - clarify... You saw you had a nail in your tire and you decided to push the car to 180+, or you pushed your car to 180+ and then went "whew, good thing that tire didn't blow when I was doing 180". Not being judgy...

Exactly, in chronological order, noticed nail previous to 185mph run, still hasnt lost any air. Said ''whew'' but not because nail, was because 185mph

You need to immediately go buy a Lottery ticket!!

I have seen nails in tires that were super short and did not puncture through the carcass and into the air chamber.

If it did puncture into the air chamber, it will eventually leak as the belts flex around the shaft of the "nail" and the nail is constantly being jiggled just a little after every tire revolution wearing the hole bigger. Once removed from the tire, I wouldn't be surprised to find it was a screw and not a nail. Let us know what you find.

Have it patched from the inside... no issues Plug is ok but patch is better

Patching a speed rated tire generally reduces the speed rating because the belts could be compromised. Although we cannot repair them I have on my own cars, but never suggest a plug patch method, because they further damage the belt package when you ream out the hole for the plug... If you can patch just the inside with a small nail or screw puncture not sure how much it hurts the tire, but that is only my personal feelings. I have had to do this at the track also and never had a problem. Best thing though is to replace tire if you are at all concerned about the possibility, don't take a risk if you are unsure.

Don't the tires have a road hazard warranty through Kumho?

No, there is not a road hazard warranty . Most Dealerships offer insurance coverage if consumers want it.

Well not everyone goes under 55 MPH and under 4000 rpm, forever

I would replace the tire... jeez yes it sucks but c'mon its a Viper... you want to risk getting into an accident as you're taking a hard turn because you saved a few hundred?

I've had my Kumhos patched twice on an ACR that is 90% track driven, but I am fortunate to have a local shop do it that is owned by an SCCA champion racecar driver. They use special patches that have a protrusion in the middle, he believes they are fine for track. Not recommending this to anyone that is uncomfortable with the idea, but I have no issues with patching mine.

Tire age is the only criteria for me to patch
