    Burnt clutch smell

Loving my ACR and already put 2,000 miles on it.

The only issue i have is that sometimes i smell burnt clutch smell. It's only been a handful of occasions when i did more aggressive pulls in the first gear, and most times i smelled the clutch.

Secondly, i sometimes smell it after more spirited highway driving, which is weird. I do rev/match, but most times i am in the 4th or 5th.

I myself, consider most clutch issues a user caused problem, but as a person that grew up in Europe, i saw the first automatic transmission when i landed in the States, so i doubt i messed it up within 2,000 miles, with no drag racing or even one track day.

I drove the car as it's supposed to, and if it's any indication of the proper break in and usage, it never burned one ounce of oil.

I am scheduled to take it at the dealership, but i was curious to find out if anyone had similar issues.

The clutch smell is not normal. As a point of interest the oem clutch is fine for stock power levels and street tires. The complaints are typically attached to slicks and the dragstrip.

This is a good point. I am 100% stock.

Forgot to mention that my clutch does not slip and engages normally.

I kinda remember my car having a chemical "burn off" smell for a little when it was new. It wasnt clutch but it did kinda stink.

Where is the bite point on the clutch pedal? I know you have a dead pedal in the Gen Vs do you ride with your foot ever resting on the clutch pedal? On a Gen II its easy to make the mistake of pulling away in 3rd if you don't pull the shifter over enough. Ever done that? That will make the clutch smell!

I noticed my car has a lot of weird smells at times, sometimes like a plasticky burning smell and other times I don't know what.
I just figured it was new car break in parts smelling. Runs fine.

Same here, for the first few drives, when I parked the car in my garage it smelled like something had burned.
After a while that went away. Haven't smelled anything in awhile.

It also smelled the same way after the front end wrapping but there was some residue of liquid on the motor a little bit. My guess is that since there are those 6 holes on the hood, the liquid the installer used dripped down a little and got burned off.

Then again, clutch smell is very unique so I doubt that one would confuse it with something else.

I rest my foot on the sidewall rest.

No 3rd gear pulls. The weird thing is that i get the smell after highway driving, with little shifting.

Clutch works ok for now, engaging two thirds into depress.

True, clutch smell is unique. Hard pulls into 1st gear will fill the cabin of smell. May not be the best driver, but i am good with manual transmissions.

Exactly what I was thinking. Noticed it for the first 1500 or so miles in my 16 SRT jeep I just purchased. OP, I'm guessing you will get a clean bill of health but it's good to go get it checked.

    Try this:

    1. Engine running, car at rest on a level hard surface.

    2. 2000 rpm, clutch to the floor in first gear.

    3. Very slowly release the clutch and make a mental note where the clutch pedal is when the car starts to move.

I think you will be surprised.

My stock clutch would start to engagement about 1" up off the floorboard. Pretty quickly..

crossover point was say 2/3 up.

But if you touch the pedal even slightly it'll be disengaging.

Mine is the same, the point is, the twin disk clutch does not release as clean as a single disk. This has to work the syncros more.

If you go below that crawl point of 1", you will start to hear the syncros grind with the car ar rest.

I will give it more attention, but my clutch from day one, does nothing up until half pedal.
