    ACR tarantula hunting

Its tarantula season in the Central California foothills, so took the car out this morning to see what I could find. Well it didn't take long, the roads were littered with the remains of many casualties trying to cross the road, but I did find these guys still moving

This guy was very agitated and wouldn't let me pass, he kept raising up on his legs and trying to intimidate me

Anyway, a great day in California, the weather is perfect.

Last week was the Tarantula Festival, I missed it so just decided to go for a ride. The carcasses are littered on the road, poor things.

I have to admit, on that last picture, after he passed I wanted to pull up next to him, open the door and get another picture, I couldn't do it, freaked me out.

Believe me, you haven't flailed around like a little girl until you get a Huntsman Spider in your face. Life in Australia has its moments of excitement...

I'm one of those spider-loving weirdos. Thanks for sharing!! And thank you for not killing them.

I really just thought you wanted a black with red stripe option but clearly I was mistaken.

    wow amazing!

We have banana spiders here that grow to about 5-6" in diameter. Big mofos but they dont hurt anybody. They do eat a lot of bad bugs though.

Assassin bugs here in FL are really cool imo.

Where did you take those pictures?
I'm in the SF Bay Area and I've never seen those spiders. I would love to check them out though.

Right outside Fresno. They have a Tarantula Festival in Coarsegold, CA late October, but I was probably only 5 miles out of Fresno to find them.

Seems like a trip to Fresno is in my near future

I didn't know about that festival, that must be really awesome to go to.

Yes it would. One year give or take. I hate flying so that gives me plenty of time to prepare myself...

Crazy - just caught this - Tarantula Hawk just took out this tarantula and dragged it into it's nest. Hawk was about 3-4".

Plum is conflicted by this. He dislikes spiders so he's happy the Tarantula was taken out. However, it was taken out by a flying spider....which may be worse for Plum.
