What sports cars or super cars do you think will or are appreciating

I was thinking about buying a 2nd fun car, but I'd like to get something that's going to hold it's value... I know, I know, it's impossible to predict, but there are some trends I'm seeing right now. What cars do you think will be safe bets?

    Here's what I'm seeing:

In the +/- $20k-$50k range I see Honda s2000's holding or appreciating, as well as the 03/04 mustang cobras, toyota supra (of course), air cooled non turbo porsches skyrocketing
In the +/- $100k range I see manual transmission porsche's (GT3's especially) going up (in a bubble?), manual transmission ferrari 360's and f430's skyrocketing..

Some cars I'm wondering about.. BMW M2, Mustang GT350R, Ferrari 599, Cayman GT4

What are you guys seeing or predicting will be a great buy right now?

Always tough to tell. Personally I don't see the Mustangs 350r's going up. I think there are a lot already in collector hands, making for a big pool of them. If gping up, I don't think it will be for a while but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I like the caymans a lot. Better than the 911s besides the GT3RS. My brother has one and they are a great car. Going up though? I don't know.

I like the 360s and 430s a lot, personally. I think they are sexy cars. My concern with an investment though is if they go up in price too much, why not just buy a newer Ferrari? Are they that special that someone would just have to have one? I guess they are the last of the manual Ferraris. The term skyrocket is a bit much IMO.

Of all the cars you mentioned, a low mileage unmolested S2000 seems to me like it will be a car that is talked about a lot in the future. It was he first car with a push button start, IIRC. It was an affordable car that offered pretty good bang for the buck and had a good looking design.

Remember to be collectible a car doesn't have to be a hit in its own time. I could see a stock Isuzu Vehicross going for a lot at auction in some time. call me crazy but in 20 years I bet one will cross the block for a lot because of its odd factor. Obviously, just an opinion. Car investing is a fickle mistress.

Edit: not a sports car but diesel 4x4 Excursions will always be desireable and I believe the V-10 be collectible as a monument to excess and piece of history. I believe in 30 years we will be telling our children at car museums when we see one "moms who had 2 children said they just HAD to have these because the suburban wasn't big enough for trips to the mall and soccer practice."

It's like a $30k-$40k premium for a manual 360 right now, and I think about a $40k premium on an f430... so I suppose I'm too late on those..

Closer to 50-60K on the F430 in a spider in the manual. You can put me down for this but at those prices and the fact that the box is just an automated manual omeone is going to figure out how to convert the F1 cars to manual in the future destroying a lot of that increase.

My personal opinion is the manual F355, a really clean stock NSX if you fit and the Gen II viper in blue and white. I really like the 4C and the Exige in the long run but both need to drop a bit more before they bottom out for purchase.

I really didn't realize they were commanding that much of a premium. You follow the market more closely than I do. I guess the question is are they going to continue to climb? I see why the collector would want the last of a stick Ferrari. Seems like a hell of a premium but when Ferrari collectors want somethig, they'll get it.

Probably we are in an asset bubble so I don't think it would be a good time to pay that premium. Just my guess..

Original Fiat 500s prices seem to be going through the roof! Not the latest gens but the 1960s originals

While it might not be exactly what you are looking for, I think that the personal luxury vehicle market is very low right now. To that end, they are not "super" cars, but more luxury and two doors. Caddy XLR V, Lincoln Mark VIII. The V is quite fast and I don't see it going down in value.
