Thread: Orange TA Value

I don't think you, me or anyone else on this forum should publicly comment on our opinion of the suitability of the asking price of another user's car. Buyers and sellers are fortunate to be able to get a sense of the "range" of resale prices and may find that helpful in their purchase or sale, whether they're looking for a daily driver or one to collect. Thanks to the OP and others for providing resale data points.

Opinions almost universally run to the low end of any model's price range it seems on this forum for some reason, particularly if it's from someone considering buying one ; Maybe some buyers of lower priced cars think they're more savy buyers, disregarding that some sellers are as well. The "no stories" cars we here about sometime turn out to be anything but.

Regardless, we don't need to worry about what others sell or pay for their cars, and should trust that they are in the best position to determine that based on the actual car and many other variables. But that's just my opinion!

Zee is not going to capture the person that is willing to pay "all the money" when the car is approaching 10,000 miles and is going to be the fourth owner. In my mind it's more the fact that it's the fourth owner and if the prospective buyer has any future resale in mind selling to the 5th owner starts to raise eyebrows. Sorry Zee, you have a beautiful car, but in my mind it is no longer a "collectable". I believe you will be looking around $80K. I say this with no bias as I am not in the market right now.

Well said Bruce! Buyers obviously will want the best price and state a price a lot lower than what the car is worth. It's hard to stay objective when you have to write a check! I have been guilty of it as well, but like you said, a non story, awesome condition, clean TA(like mine ) should fetch a good price. Vipers always take time to sell. There was another member with an Orange TA in Texas that held out for like 6 months or more till he got what he want.

Gotta say this post really sums things up so accurately.

Agree with what everyone has said about the G. It's an entirely different driving experience. I know I'll miss my TA, and thats why I have been so indecisive on selling. However, given my personal circumstances I wanted to try out some other cars as it will get harder and harder to do so for me (time). I wish I could own both as the Viper gives me the thrill of speed and a crazy engaging experience, but a 6 speed Spyder G gives me a lot of what I miss cruising down PCH with the wife. Maybe one day I'll be fortunate enough to own both. Cheers.

Zee your car is clearly well sorted with no issues and your price is very on point. You have set a perfectly fair bottom line no BS sales price and I suspect it will sell soon. I do look forward to seeing the pictures and driving experience you have with the gallardo.

Thanks man! Finding a 6 speed spyder G within my budget will likely take a LONG time. Let's see what happens. I may get cold feet with selling the TA unless it's for a solid price

A fluke is just that...a fluke, meaning it occurred pretty much one time. The fact that multiple TA's have sold well under $80K is NOT a fluke, its a fact. I understand that everyone that has one wants to defend the values of the TA's, but the market speaks loud and clear when they sell and those that listen have been told a couple of things in recent months. 1.) A TA can be had for under $80K and in some cases WELL under & 2.) What people are asking and whet they are actually getting are two different things. Can't argue with reality.

Also, the guy that sold his 1 owner TA with 4K miles for $70K was not a fire sale. He has multiple Vipers and decided to sell this particular car and at the time, that was all he could get for it.

I'm really surprised you are so vehement on the issue of TA values as you are a viper owner with two very iconic vipers: a 2002 graphite/silver ACR and a first MY Gen I. It makes me wonder what you think your cars would be worth as those are pretty rare and desirable vehicles. What's the point of arguing syntax over "fluke?" Not many viper TA's sell as there are not many in existence. My car which was sreferenced in the above post was for sale in April of this year at VE and sold for around 92k and then had the HC package added. While one can quote the fire sale price I paid, it was only a few months earlier it sold over 90K and then had $17,000US in added upgrades (including the titanium catback for $2200). I can't tell you why that owner of the Verzano TA could only get 70k for his viper outside of three probable issues:
    1. Advertising on CL
    2. The interior
    3. Poor salesman

The person who bought that car is attempting to flip it for around $94,000. Now we know that probably will not happen but it shows a clear intention that the buyer merely scooped it up to flip it for profit. The general consensus on that particular car's interior is that it doesn't go well with the car and that does impact the value. I think you are correct that a TA can be had for under 80k and in a very few cases "well under" as you said. However you are lumping Orange, Black & White TA 1.0 cars into one group not accounting for miles, mods, owner history, maintenance records etc etc. To punctuate this a 2002 red viper ACR sold for $42,500 so therefore a 2002 1/22 Graphite with silver stripes GTS ACR can be had for that price too. You are just speaking partial truth on this issue of value and you aren't fairly factoring in many different variables that drastically do impact final sales price and for that you are ignoring the TA cars that are indeed selling over 90k.

Multiple TAs under $80k? You mean like 2-3? Come on man, give me a break. What about the several others that fetch has 85-90k or more? Your sample size sucks and your trying to give us trends? It's all about timing and how desperate owners are. The market for a well sorted TA is $85-90k and maybe more depending on miles and history. Plenty of data points from owners on here and dealers. I bet that white TA on VE that just sold to a member for around that range I mentioned. Hopefully they can chime in.

Also - the TA that went for $70k had a hideous interior, and modifications to motor which likely voided warranty. All big things for someone wanting to buy a gen V and keep the TA original since it's a limited model (I.E. not a "better than GTS" interior as the ad states. It's a freaking TA)

LOL at this thread. It is the exact same discussion almost every time the question of value comes up. It is entertaining. There should be a bell to signal the end of each round, though.

Are there really solid TAs selling under $80k? Please PM me if they're floating around. I did see that TA in question, the interior for $12k, wasn't like a dolphin on the hood kind of mistake, but it certainly didn't add value and probably subtracted value .. unless the pics were just really bad & it's better in person. But for that price I'd have bought it in 2 seconds & off to Antonio with it. Wow.

Yes I do have 2 pretty nice / iconic Vipers and the values on those are anyone's guess as numbers are all over the place. As to my comments on the TA, I am not downing the car or its "value". Just LAUGHING when people come on here saying that one can't be had for under $80K. Usually its the people that bought one for under $80K saying that it is impossible, which makes me laugh even more. In the end, a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. There are TA's going for well over $80K, but there are also TA's going for well under and I'm sure that the numbers will continue to fluctuate in the near term.

The cars I was referencing were ALL orange ones. As to the ORANGE TA with the "hideous" interior and mods...I actually like the seats in that car. I think they were well done. It will be interesting to see what the current owner gets for it if in fact it sells.

I know of a number of low mileage TA's that have sold for $90k or more and have decided that if any more of that type is foolishly offered for less than $85k I might just buy them all. After cornering the market I'll offer them for sale for a mimimum of $95k, thereby finally ending the argument that you can buy a good low mileage example for less than $90k, never mind less than $80k or $70k

haha, yup but I like the shit show. I just find it incredibly lame that viper owners continue to bastardize the market for the cars we are so fortunate to own. People who don't have the car or even generation are just throwing out prices and it's pathetic. It's akin to calling an insurance company and asking for a quote without telling the agent what kind of car it is. Two orange fire sales don't a trend make. My dealer knew he messed up the pricing when 20 people contacted him within 24 hours on a car advertised for less than a day. We shall see as I think Zee's price is perfect for his car. It's still under 10k miles, stock, no engine issues and is well maintained. If it doesn't sell at or around that price then it will show the market for the typical orange TA is changing. Ding...Ding.

Nooooo way. That car wasn't advertised anywhere. That car would have immediately sold for at LEAST 80k, if not 85k. You are WAY out of touch with the market dude.

    He's a buyer...What do you expect?

Says the guy with an orange TA...lol

If you are calling me a "buyer" and mean to say I am in some way trying to influence prices to the downside so I can buy one, you couldn't be more wrong. I buy lots of cars and have lots of cars because it's the only hobby I enjoy, so if I wanted one, it would already be in my garage. I just think it's funny when people think they have something that is worth much more than it really is. Kind of reminds me when I was shopping for a GNX and the numbers I came across. Lol.

Don't worry though, I wouldn't expect anything less from a "seller", which is clearly what you are.

Good luck with the sale. I really hope you get your number.

Woulda, coulda, shooda, but DIDN'T and that has been my point for those that care to read and understand. I never said they don't routinely sell for more , or that they are not worth more, merely that they have sold a lot less than what some (sellers) would have you believe. Facts are facts buddy. No one is making things up here.

I think that the people that have actually bought and sold orange TA's are probably uniquely qualified to speak to the value. We are the ones that have actually had to engage in negotiations over the cars, and who have really had a chance to get a feel for what the market is. Buy one and then we can talk.

We have sold a lot of TAs, new and used, and I can say the market has been very stable and if anything has gone up a little bit. Orange definitely seems to command a bit more than the white and black , but would question that many went for around 70K ( the one I know that did was a buy back with a blown motor ). Regardless the TAs seems to have gained a solid footing as many now realize there really aren't that many out there. Supply always affects demand. Either way it appears the Viper market has stabilized on practically all models and years , primarily due to the fact that the end of the line is around the corner -imho.
