Jason loves the 911R because of the lack of sound deadening, sticker badge on hood, manual transmission lack of nannies.

They market much better the Dodge

Brilliant idea to make a retro car (for them) and only make it available to the 918 original owners. Its slower then a GT3 and a GT3 Rs on track but who cars it has hounds tooth seats

The reality is that millions of children, especially those that are over 40 today, grew up idolizing the 911. That's not to say that the Viper didn't have the same allure to some children, but it isn't comparable. No matter what, there wasn't going to be very many negative things said about the car because he simply loves the brand too much.

I almost started the same thread, but I didn't thinking it would be off topic, but it is impossible to watch that video review and not feel like we are having someone highlight the wonderful things we love about our Viper.

It is my opinion that he simply can't compliment the Viper too much because how can this car that costs half of most 911's run circles around them in the one aspect that Porsche has claimed to have no equal (the track)?

The elephant in the room though is that Motor Trend has always disliked the Viper. Let's face it. The Viper can hurt an ego probably easier than any other car. You have someone who drives and reviews vehicles for a living and then one comes along that makes them look like an idiot behind the wheel and the reason it does is because it won't drive itself for him. Yet, in capable hands the car crushes your dream brands $1MM offering, especially when there is more than one lap involved.

Typically most really awesome things in life aren't appreciated until they are gone; be it art, music, poetry, people, cars etc. some of the most legendary in all topics/genres I just listed attain that status years later when hindsight takes effect. The viper will be no different. It really won't. We hear too often at every fill up that it's an amazing car, a favorite car, a dream car...whatever. And one day some of those people will be lucky enough to snag the few of these that are around.

Actually kinda cool in person, but not a Viper.

If you slapped a Porsche badge on the ACR it would be the car of the decade, performance wise And acceptance wise.
This is sort of silly because Porsche would never put their badge on a vehicle like the Viper. Doesn't meet their standards.

    So true, dead on.

Growing up my dream car was a Porsche 930, had the poster on the wall. When I bought my first Porsche turbo I felt I realized dream. I've never kept a Porsche more than a year, I got bored with them. Now, my dream car is an ACR with a Calvo built bottom and TT setup, and I'll be dreaming for a while.

You guys do know Porsche made the original 911R some 25 years before the Viper was released...

I wouldn't say they're copying the Viper, but celebrating their heritage.

IMO journalist have a much lower driving skill then you would think and a 911R on the street probably feels more like a car they could push to 7/10th and have fun. Nobody is pushing a ACR to 7/10th on the street, well you probably should not be. Its fun above that on the track for the few that can really push it and understand it. It's fun to own but it's not exactly the best weekend driver which is what they are most comfortable in. The new base 911s is fantastic as well and beyond the ability for 99.9% of the people to push beyond 8/10th.

Notice how they conveniently have probst do the track driving for time and when they do go head to head with him he looks like he is just loofing along and they are in HP++ cars behind and falling behind in the corners. I doubt they could put a spec miata within 5 seconds of the same car with the best driver on the forum and there are only what 1900 memebers.
