Porsche Makes a Viper and Sells Out

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EbbxWI7UvA

Honest Engine and transmission noise, manual transmission--driver's car!

    Like a down-powered Viper.

Too bad more people do not recognize the connection with the concept of the Viper.

If you happen to have a million dollars laying around, I don't see why not.

I agree stealth....I heard many things that were VERY translatable to the VIP'er. "Nicely weighted steering" "direct wide gated transmission almost impossible to miss a shift". It'll be one of those cars that once the ACR buzz wears off someone will re-test one and say, "this is a great bargain....you can get 80% of the performance in a more street friendly machine. And as we all know 80% of ACR performance means....not many things will touch it!!!"

    -_-

This is ridiculous. I am by no means someone who only likes vipers, but I'm still having trouble understanding why the 911r sold so well and for so much. It's not like the formula is original; the viper is very similar in that regard and it's a better performance car. Is the porsche brand and body worth that much to people?

Its just riding the ongoing Porsche car culture wave! The market is hott, classics are going up to ridiculous values. You have to admit its hard to not sell out fun cars you are marketing as future classics!

Not exotic, looks like every other porsche, and wife can drive it. No thanks

What blew my mind was how the host Jason Camissa ripped on the viper for being loud with every nook and cranny heard in the cabin yet praises the Porsche for such characteristics. The only aspect the 911R wins against the ACR is street comfort (due to softer springs) but that's it

I really hate this guys bitchy face when he is "forced" to drive a Viper. I cant stand much of his annoying journalism to tell you the truth, its annoying and so extra. Chris Harris is another super 911 fan and his review of the ACR (though too damn short, ill hate TG forever for that) was less whining and drama and more about what the ACR does well and how it compares to other automotive products.

This was not not meant to be a comparison to the ACR but more to the Gen 5 in general. For example a GTS or a TA would be more comparable since we're not comparing to the GT3 or GT3 RS. For me the qualities that the reviewer liked about the 911r were for the most part qualities that the Gen V Viper has but the Viper has it in most cases in Greater quantities. And yet...

To answer your last question, it's one simple thing- marketing! Porsche does it extremely well and Dodge does it very poorly, at least in the case of the Viper.

Let's compare the ACR's response to that of the 911 R.

How is a Viper any harder to drive than a manual transmission 911? Some of you are just being silly now.

Lol. I'll have to go back through the Chris Harris thread when he drove the Viper but I vividly remember how so many people were bashing him for being a Porsche fan and saying all this crap about him because they assumed he would bad mouth the ACR. However, once he actually praised it, they couldn't get on their knees fast enough to suck him off. My assumption still holds true:

If a journalist criticizes the Viper- He's either another brand's fan boy, uneducated, annoying, ugly, a poor driver, uninformed, or a combination of one or more those.

If a journalist praises the Viper- He's either the smartest man alive, very intelligent, a great driver, or very well informed.

Really, donk? I actually assumed you were one of the few that were better than this.

Another thought, for as much as everyone says they don't care what journalist say, you guys sure seem to make quite a few threads about their content. It used to be that you guys would only complain when a journalist said something negative about the Viper but now we've devolved to whining about why the Viper isn't mentioned more. A race to the bottom that just keeps on chugging.

Nope. I look for consistency across the board. I am a huge Porsche fan myself and have been watching Chris Harris for years. He does the best reviews hands down. The motor trend guys are trying to make people laugh with their lame content. Its annoying. I quite frankly dont care what they say about the Viper.

To be fair, I'd say Cammisa has been fairly consistent in his criticism of the Viper. In addition, contrary to what you say, you do care what the MT guys say about the Viper or you wouldn't have brought up how his face looks. In addition, you wouldn't be upset that Top Gear made CH's positive video review of the Viper so short if you didn't care what journalist say. You want more positive press for the Viper because you happen to like it and hate when it doesn't receive it or gets criticized.

Lol, I would have to agree that it doesn't look to much different from the older boxsters that kids in high school drive these days.

I wouldn't have said anything if I hadn't watched the best drivers car video a few days earlier where they said they couldn't stand being in the ACR for more than 5 minutes on the street. Again, I'm really not trying to make this a big thing, but I think somebody has to call this guy out for saying all that, then praising the 911r like it was the greatest thing ever. Almost comical.

Porsche has a long and fantastic history. A bass 911 with a few options costs more than a decently optioned ACR. And they sell those all day long.

Not sure why people are baffled the 911R gets praise.

If you slapped a Porsche badge on the ACR it would be the car of the decade, performance wise And acceptance wise.
