ACR E in for CQuartz and I drove a new 650S

Took the ACR-E in today... first stop dealer for oil and diff fluid change at just over 500 miles. That went perfect, and two containers of fluid for Blackstone... check.

Next stopped by an exotic dealer who was going to do CQuartz on the ACR... while there I perused the inventory, trying to shoehorn my way into a Diablo, sat in a 458... very nice, TRIED to sit in a 675LT... those competition seats are not wide enough... mark that off...

Next 570S and finally the 650S... a 2016 Spider. Impressive...

Tosses me the keys and my son and I are off on a test drive...

All I can say is I was speechless... the ride, handling, power, and refinement was amazing.

Don't get me wrong... LOVE the ACR... but when you compare it to the 650S I see why car evaluators call it an axe vs. something like the 650S.

I was speechless when I returned... now to sell the '68 Hemi Charger, and the Hellcat...

    Be Safe!

McLarens are another level. I can't comprehend why anyone would want a Ferrari or Lamborghini vs one.

Never bonded with my MP4 - it's fast air brake suspension fit and finish carbon tub very cool wife loved the car. Turbo's aren't for everyone took forever to warm up in cold weather it was my daily.

Was going for a P1 but the factory and dealer were a PIA - tracking the car required before and after track inspection for warranty dealer was 300 miles away. I could go on but it's not as wonderful as it appears.

Every few months they come out with a new model and they depreciate rapid. 315k list worth 185k 18months 3k later and the dealer wouldn't even consider taking it even on consignment. At that time the dealer was only allowed to place 2 cars on the market at a time. There was inventory hidden they simply don't have enough sales and keep producing whereas almost every Ferrari made has a customers name on it.

The 650S spider new - dealers were taking 80k off demo's that the dealer was able to claim basically a new car so it's not just the MP4 that takes a heavy depreciation.

Will take my Ferrari's and Lamborghini every day - NA torque hp get em while you can!

There is a 650S in our track group, and those things are a monster on the straights! That 650S was the most any car has ever walked away from me on the straight, silently at that!

Yeah me too I was cross shopping P1's but decided to get a 100K Viper cause it's "more wonderful" even though the P1's have doubled in value.

def a sharp machine, drove a 650 a few months ago. True it doesn't challenge the driver much but aren't they all going in that direction??

Unfortunately, it seems that way. That said, I'm glad you don't have to spend much to have a fun, exciting vehicle. I applaud Toyota for making the 86 and Mazda for going back to basics with the ND. Two fairly light, decently powerful, rear wheel drive vehicles, that offer a manual transmission and won't break the bank.

Not sure on the challenge aspect... no it doesn't challenge you at low speed, but at high rates of speed it is still a very involved car...
Sure the nannies are there, but we can thank the lawyers and lawsuits for that....

If anything, these cars are allowing us to achieve higher rates of speed than the common man has ever been able to do... watch cockpit footage of an original GT40 going around a track, and the amount of involvement / driver input required.

These new cars allow mortals to drive fast... and reduce driver fatality... its not all bad.

Nannies are a good thing - way too fast basically race cars with no race protection.

Mclaren cf tub - seen some nasty accidents and drivers passengers are fine.

Suggest Mclaren Life one of the best forums great people - if there was a dealer closer I would go back to the brand.

Might be worth taking a look at the Huracan it's even faster and awd.

I'm not saying that its all without challenge but compared to the Viper, it sure feels that way. I love the drive input we get with our cars but I don't disagree with the rest of your post.

    you aren't kidding...

Drag Times online, the 650S runs away from anything rolling or standing, except the LaFerrari...
The Aventador SV stayed with it, but the 650S beats everything else...

I have a Aventador SV added the race exhaust 60+ hp and Huracan is faster 0 - 60 it's awd systems twin clutch eats asphalt off the line and exiting corners. The SL Huracan will be insane.

Stock SV 2.7 with race exhaust and tune 2.5
    Huracan 2.5

Interesting. As I'm contemplating not getting an ACR after 17 yrs of vipers, I've been looking around and McLaren is very interesting. I've been trying to research their reliability, since extended warranties are price prohibitive with them.

Mclaren protects their dealers - unless policy has changed only a car sold off the lot can receive an extended warranty. Dealers have a huge upper hand on used Mac's keep that in mind when it comes time to sell.

Reliability is good - the IRIS NAV system had a lot of issues and they will depreciate hard the first few years.

not true.. you can add the extended warranty through a dealer after 90 days of ownership. $4400 for 1 year and $8500 for 2 years. I can tell you that the cars are infact very reliable. I have seen several with 25k plus miles and not a single major issue. however there will always be bad cars out there as well..

If you bought the car from a dealership. I owned one ended up wholesaling trust me it's a PIA to sell a Mclaren.

Even if you bought private party or Non McLaren dealer. Trust me I was the Service Manager for Dallas for 5 years.

Didn't mean to derail the thread, but my research has been interesting. Reliability is a big item for me, as I bought a 2016 Land Rover and it's left me stranded and has various electrical gremlins. I'm wondering if that's an English made example of what I'm looking at for a McLaren. They are intriguing, and the prices for barely used are as depreciated as our vipers, it's amazing, but perhaps for good reason, IDK. I broke my thumb to pieces this labor day in a fluke crash in my last race of the weekend, so I can't drive anything anyway other than my SUV due to a giant cast I'm in, so doing a lot of online what if & research. Thx for the posts on McLaren, the online community seems pretty small.

Land Rover is Tata Motors - surprised to hear the issue had a SVR Sport great car.

Mac has the typical small new factory problems - it's best to wait for the kinks to get worked out.

They spent way too much money gearing up for big sales and they aren't moving enough units. It seems every few months there is a new special model of almost the same car. The first gen Macs had numerous issues nothing huge but a lot of small quirks. It's a techie car at heart so when one thing goes wrong tech guys go nuts long story short be willing to deal with little issues that should have been addressed with the 650S again the Mclaren Forum is the place to learn but the forum or used to only allow owners into the "problem threads" all the members wanted think kept quiet so the car wouldn't depreciate so rapidly plus a lot of UK guys that are proud of their brand.

Bottom line - it's fast and a ton of car for the money especially the CF tub for a spider it's not spaghetti like Ferrari key is to have a dealer close by.

Surprised on the Land Rover too, I have a '14 Range Rover HSE and its the greatest day-to-day vehicle I've ever owned. Comfortable, capable, and dealer service is impeccable.

I don't own a McLaren yet, but talked to a BUNCH of owners... if its ownership of a 650S or any model post its make, they have all been 100% positive.

If they owned an MP4-12C there are more varied opinions. That car appears to have a quirky / spotting experience curve with owners. They did depreciate fast, they had door and automation issues, and may (even reviewers) said the car was a little soulless... it was just too robotic for some. However I have not heard the same on the 650S save those that don't care for the incredible suspension that for some is just too comfy for a sports car. I personally loved it.

I do believe that the factory went through some issues, and that the dealer network had some problems as well, especially with the results of the economic debacle and the production required to be swallowed by a new factory. Supposedly this has been addressed.

I also know that rumors have them doubling the dealer network to at least the number Ferrari has currently, so a lot of the holes in the country are to be filled.

I loved the car, and I'll be buying one of them, and a 458...

I found the only 2 owners of Land Rovers who haven't had an issue, lol. They definitely have a reputation, using the forums, my issue wasn't unusual. I have the limited edition HST supercharged version, died at 400 miles, electrical failure, 5 weeks in the shop for all new harnesses. When I was hopping for one, everytime I went to a dealer, there'd be multiple models they couldn't sell because they were dead on arrival and waiting weeks for parts to fix them. Good to hear Mac isn't the same. Owners on the LR/RR forum put into perspective, they are like super hot models who happen to have schizophrenia, awesome but a bit crazy. It's an awesome car & power, chose it over the SRT JGC to make the wife happy, I do get compliments all the time, not used to that from my DD SUV.

Used Mac, or AC or Calvo wrenched ACR. Hmmmm.
