Value of a 2014 with 20k miles?

Hey all, I'm looking to get into my first viper. Always liked them, but never had an interest in owning one until the gen 5. Anyway, I have found a 2014 with 20k miles on it and the seller is asking $64k.. Seems like a decent deal considering all the others I've been seeing lately are in the low to mid 70's- but all those have been in the 10k miles or less range. Thats roughly $1 per mile depreciation compared to others. Are the values really that sensitive to mileage? Or should I be worried about something else with a car this price? Seems to me that if the car is still under warranty, then I should have nothing to worry about, and maybe its even a good sign that the car has this many miles without having spun a bearing- could be a sign that the engine is not in the 8% that has that particular problem...

That's the cheapest Gen V I've seen listed in a while! There are Gen IV's with similar mileage asking similar prices, which makes me wonder, but sometimes you just get an owner who wants out of their car, and doesn't mind losing a little $$ in the process.

That is cheap for any version, but I am assuming this is an SRT? Check the carfax....

Yes, its a base SRT. Only options it has are stripes and sidewinder wheels.

If you pursue it, be sure to have a Dodge dealer scan the ecu to make sure there isn't a discrepancy between the mileage on the car and the mileage on the ecu.

What is the trim level of the car you are looking at? That will also help with valuing it.

That car has been for sale for a while. Started at $70K and slowly dropping. I assume it is the one at Brad Deery. It also has the 18 speaker stereo upgrade and the seats upgrade. Truthfully you would be better to talk with John Gastman as he has a black with silver stripe SRT in those similar ranges (more) but less miles and if John says his is good, you can take that to the bank. Just a thought for you.

Honestly, and sadly, this is a very real point. It's not the miles that are or should be a concern engine wise (if anything it shows its bulletproof with those miles), but the resale will be hard of you plan to really put on miles.

Why? It's a stupid Viper thing. Porsche, Shelby, NSX, Supra, corvette all allow much higher mileage than the Viper. Its common to see Vipers with 3k miles 20 years old.

If you truly are buying to keep her then miles don't matter. Plus some motors have spun bearings and we haven't heard of one bearing failure at that level of mileage so that's a good sign.

Yes, thats the one. Do you know of something particular with this one that I should stay away from? I will definitely make sure to get it in writing that this one is still under factory warranty if I go thru with this deal. I am already somewhat negotiating with them on this car but I have a trade so that throws a little complication into the process as far as final numbers go...

Thanks for the input. If I do buy it, its gonna be to drive it. Not a DD or anything, but I could easily put 5k+ miles on every year. So maybe this is suited good for me anyway since I would only contribute to the mileage. My GTM has been a "trophy car" for the 2 years I've had it- I've only put about 500 miles on it. For my next car, I definitely want to enjoy driving it a lot more.

Kind of along the lines I was thinking as well. As long as the factory warranty is in-tact, I think Id be ok with that.

that's a great pickup if you get it. If plan on doing a lot of street driving a good option is to add the factory dual mode suspension or tractive DCS from viper exchange. Either will be a huge comfort improvement over the base mode dampeners. If you want to go the factory dual mode route I'll give you a killer deal on the setup

If the only detractor is mileage, and you plan on driving the thing, just do it.

Think about it this way, you pay more money for a medium mileage Viper, actually drive the thing, and now it's a high mileage Viper, worth less than average, because people are afraid of it for some strange reason........ Now you've paid average money for the car, and will sell for low money. Buy low money, sell for low money. Cheap fun.

I've never understood the philosophy of keeping it nice for the next guy. I can guarantee mine will be on the low range of resale whenever I sell it, and I'm fine with that. And buying new, I didn't buy for low money, but I will sell for low money.

With a proper warranty intact, and the motor surviving this long, you should be in good shape. Buy an extended warranty for half price from one of the members here, and enjoy the car.

There have been lower mileage Gen 5's selling for similar or less money... FYI.

I'd wait a few short months and pick up a lower mileage car for the same money. On the flip side, you can buy it now and enjoy it. I'm sure any issues were addressed in the first 20k miles.

They are not returning my emails or phone calls anymore.. Either they dont want to sell or they have already sold it (altho their ad is still on AT)..

I also have had terrible anxiety over selling the GTM even though I have had good offers on it.

In the end, I think I am going to keep the GTM and wait a few years when I will be able to add a gen 5 viper to the stable without having to sacrifice another car that I really love.

So for the meantime I guess I'll just keep lurking this forum and living vicariously thru you guys. Keep those gen 5's nice for when I'm able to buy one from one of yall

Agreed but reality is that car will end up selling in the upper $50s. For a car like that, lemoned or not, that is still a lot if car for the money.
