PCM items that can be changed on a Gen 2

I have read several posts about getting the PCM items changed, like idle speed and fan turn on temp etc.

On the Gen 2:

What can be changed by tools? (can I buy the tools myself?)

What can be changed by Dodge Service techs? (if different)

What can be screwed up working on the PCM?

I remember the old days, when you turned a screw to change the idle speed

You need SCT ProRacer software and an SCT handheld to perform those tasks.

You can change all kinds of stuff.

* Timing
* Variable fuel maps / tables
* Fixed fuel maps / table
* Fuel enrichment
* LTFT utilization
* Injector scaling
* More simple things like skip shift and cooling fan settings

Almost every parameter the engine uses to function.

Searching for the hardware ($300 plus) and the software (about $400) - if I am correct, seems to be high for me to just increase idle slightly and alter the fan temperature turn on.

Are the dealers or tuning shops that own these tools reasonable to get things like this done?

Dealers don't tune cars. Tuners usually charge $100 per tune plus the tuning devise.

Don't really have to, just seems low, I can get use to it as is though (I am new to Vipers).

They idle at 700 rpm. Very rarely does one need altering.

Don't go by the tach. Hook up a real time OBD scan tool that can show what it actually is.

Get a cheap bluetooth ODBII dongle off eBay and find a good app for your phone. There are lots out there to choose from, you'll have to pay about $10 for a good ODBII monitoring app.

If you want a basic can-tune, pop off your PCM, send it to one of the tuning "Dans" and have it done for under $300ish depending on mods.

This one is great for the price. It will show you live PCM data, such as timing, fuel trim, O2 sensor data, RPM's, etc..., which you can log. You can also read and erase trouble codes, like other readers.

Well, there IS that option too, I guess....
