Gen 2 hood latch near doors

I'm trying to align my hood and I noticed that the rear latch hook isn't coming in connect with the striker bolt. I took it off the hood and set it on the guide plate latch. It doesn't even hook on the striker? Is is suppose to, or does it just guide it into place? It looks like it is suppose to hook on the striker which would hold the hood in place when closed? I can get it close to hooking but it doesn't hook in place. It DOES hold the hood in a locked position but it just seems odd to me.

This is how it sits when the hood is closed. It might be a little closer but it definitely doesn't hook on the striker

This is what I would think would need to happen but it doesn't come close to hooking the bolt like this at all. My hood fully closes and shuts, it just seems odd to me that the striker bolt does nothing.

Yea, I'm with Dave. Looks more like a preventive measure to insure hood folds instead of coming into the cabin at neck height in a major wreck.

I had not thought of that! Kind of makes sense now that you mention it
