How to Market a GTS

Putting my 1997 Dodge Viper GTS up for sale and I'm trying to figure out the best place(s) to market it. Of course I have it listed on Craigslist but I don't expect to sell it through that avenue.... but who knows. I bought the car on eBay but I have a feeling no matter how descriptive my ad would be, I would get bombarded with calls and emails with dumbass questions from people who probably have no real interest anyways. Seriously considering just taking it to CarMax to see what they would give me. I have a bottom dollar in mind and if they'd offer me that or even close to it I would just take it in order to avoid the drama. Below is the link to my CL ad. Any advice is appreciated

My experience with CARMAX trade in has been poor, they will give you 5k less than what it is worth, IMO.

+ this. If you want to do away with drama and get it sold quickly, just post as a firm price for what you are willing to take for it. If that price is good it will be gone pretty quickly. Seems like their are a fair number of people looking to buy but they are wanting a good deal. That's what I've done with all the cars I've sold in the past (none Vipers though). I could have made more money on a couple of them but it was worth the couple of K's to not have to deal with tire kickers.

Autotrader is not too bad on price, and will give you national exposure.

I had some friends that worked at Carmax, and they noted that they give out bottom dollar in every instance. No haggling, of course. They are, after all, a middle man and are there to profit from moving cars from one person to another.

Definitely go with a private sale. Autotrader is where I found mine, advertised from a Dodge dealership. I checked that, CL and even eBay every day for months upon end. You will find a buyer, but since it is a viper, the buyers market is extremely limited and it will take time.

I honestly haven't even considered Auto Trader so thanks for that recommendation. Paying $25 to list the car in the classifieds here seems like a good idea but I'm not sure how much exposure it would get on here. I guess it couldn't hurt.

And yeah unfortunately I'm sure I would be offended by CarMax's offer. Guess I'll just have to sell it privately. Hopefully it wont take too long.

I'll throw one more thing out. You can get with your local Dodge dealerships sales team and let them know what you have and you may be looking to sale it soon.

Only reason i put this out there is because I went to every Dodge Dealership, where I live, when I was looking for my Viper. I gave them all my contact info and told them to call me if they got a hold of one. My thought process was that I was hoping to pick one up from someone trading their car in on a new car. Couldn't hurt.

CL ad has been updated. Tons of pics added to my photobucket and I even included some youtube videos of the car, but for some reason my phone was getting hot and would cut videos short so I had to break them up.

Will try and set up an ebay and autotrader ad tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback guys!

Just a FYI. I sent your CL add to a couple people on some other Viper Forums that looked as though they were looking for a good car. You may want to periodically check around and ping people that look to be looking as they may not see the CL add. Car looks real nice so I hope it goes to a good owner. If I was still looking you'd have money in your account already. I picked up my car a couple months ago (similar condition and miles for right at your asking price).

BTW are you going to the Music City MOPAR show later this month? I plan on taking my Viper if I still have it. I'll be in Bowling Green this Saturday for LSFest. I've never been to it but hear its a lot of fun. Was thinking of taking my Viper to piss off the LS guys but I don't wanna drive it that far haha. Probably just take my daily instead.

FWIW, the Franklin C&C is good every Saturday. The 1st Sat of the month is bigger, but the other weekends still draw a nice crowd when the weather is good. Might draw some more visibilty for your sale.

Nah, that would be a bit of a drive for me (I live in Central Texas).

I hear you and can respect you on the other forums. As I find people looking for cars I'll link them to your add. Most people seem to be tire kickers but you never know when a real buyer will show up.

Well damn... what the hell were you doing all the way in Nashville this past weekend? I know a lot of you viper guys rolled in together and I remember seeing a Texas plate on one or two of them.....

I was offered this as a trade today..... but he wanted cash on top. Not in a position to do that. Maybe he'll sell his then buy mine.
