If I remove the exhaust manifold heat shields on my GTS (to inspect underneath) does that destroy them? or do they come off easy and go back on easy?

They can be a little snug to remove, but not bad. If they have been in direct contact with the manifolds for very long they will get oxidized and flake off the backside. Not a huge issue to worry about.
What are you expecting to find?
Don't know?
Just trying to inspect everything on this car - down to every nut, bolt and washer (within reason) and make it "as it was" when it came from the showroom (as best as I can).
So the shields (and everything underneath) need to be "Shiny New" Concourse level.
Where do you draw the line then? Seeing as those are something you can never see behind short of removing them, you could apply the same logic to every body panel and interior panel. Pull them off too. Every one of them. Take the valve covers and heads off. There is soot in there.
Dude. What a ridiculous waste of time lol.
they go on and off just fine. get to know your car. get your hands dirty. (but watch the edges on them heat shields-- they can be sharp!)
Hey Dave6666
While I was wasting my time cleaning the heat shields, I continued wasting my time dismantling the Blower Motor and all housings, cleaning it all spotless, then reassembling.
While someone in the future that buys my car might not see the difference, they should be able to smell "The New Car" smell when they turn on the heat or air conditioning.
And those Heat Shields sure are shinny now
