Cigarette Lighter Issues

When I got my ACR, the cigarette lighter didn't work. Am thinking that the last guy either clipped or disconnected something when he installed an aftermarket stereo system.

Is there a quick way to rewire up the cigarette lighter without having to go through and troubleshoot everything? Maybe a DIY somewhere that this mechanical engineer can't screw up?

Not being lazy...just being efficient with my time.

Maybe troubleshooting the problem is faster, easier and cheaper than rewiring?
To start check the fuse and after that remove the panel and see if the 2 wires at the back of the lighter are connected and if you have 12V there

Yes, checked that and replaced the fuse multiple times, and each time it pops again. All connections on the inside appear to be OK.

Weird. Surprised it wasnt' just the connection on the back coming loose. That is very common on these cars. Mine was the same way when I bought it, but sure enough, when I got to the back of the cig lighter the wire was laying unconnected.

Subscribed... I'm having the same issue with mine. Replaced fuse and ensured wires are connected.

I noticed when my tender stopped working...was going to take a deeper look once it gets cooler. Was thinking I needed to replace the whole trim piece as I have it out so many times replacing the head unit, shifter, trans, etc.

Not to send anyone on a wild goose chase but I had this happen on one of my cars (not a Viper though). It turned out to be a short in the cigarette lighter housing itself. Not sure how or why that happened but I replaced it and all was good. Just stumbled across it as I was shotgunning parts trying to figure it out.

One fairly common (and obvious) cause is loose tip from a device plug. Next, check connections on back of receptacle. Finally, follow diagrams to look for other areas sharing same fuse.

Also, not an unusual occurrence on power outlet inside center consoles of Gen III Vipers.

Dude. Geesh. Pull the radio bezel off and look at the back of the cig lighter to see if the wire is there. It's stupid easy.

Dave - took it off multiple times and all connections are intact. Still keeps blowing fuses.

I think this is happening in the power port in the truck. No other reason for why the fuze keeps popping instantly as that means it is pulling more than 20 amps. No reason a power port with nothing connected should be doing that. Definitely something to consider.

If it keeps blowing fuses then the wire is shorted between the fuse and lighter, or the lighter itself is shorted out. Disconnect the the wire connector at the lighter, replace the fuse, hook a test light to the connector. If the test light works the lighter is the problem. If the fuse blows when you hook up the test light the wire is shorted out.

My 01 GTS has corrosion inside the lighter socket........It was super obvious with a flashlight. I unplugged it. Miso lazy.
