TA following an ACR on track and trying to video is no easy task!

I offered to video a new friend, Mardig, tracking his new ACR-Extreme around Mosport in my TA so he could see what his looked like at speed. I'd secretly hoped to ride his a$$ all around the track, but, well, let's just say that on rather rare occasions I have to learn to live with a little disappointment!

Now in all fairness, we did keep getting separated in traffic, that's the story I'm sticking with, and I have edited video to prove it! I got pretty busy behind the wheel carving through traffic trying to catch him, waving thanks for pass-by signals to nice guys driving Corvettes, GT-R, 997 GT3RS, etc. Most of the time he magically managed to get ahead a fair bit and if it weren't for his mmmmassive wing on the back I'd have had no idea where he got to most of the time.

So I went through hours of in-car video and found three clips which I put together one after the other to make this video...

The first segment starts with us just coming on track with cold tires and a GT3RS on a hot lap passing me first, and then Mardig throwing out the anchor later to let him go so I could get in behind him again. Our tires warmed up after a couple of laps and you can probably guess what happens next

Next segment is after I've come back on track and Mardig passes me on the front straight. Jeez, what a thing of beauty as it blows past you. If you've never been bitch-slapped by an ACR you just don't know what you're missing! Then I chase a flame throwing GT-R with stupid hp. And then there a short last segment behind Mardig again.

As I followed the ACR it seemed rather obvious in the corners that he had a lot more stick with the Kumho's than I had with the Corsa's. He could carry more speed through both slow and fast corners, and his higher corner exit speeds launched him onto straights with an advantage that I could not make up with the TA's lower drag. The aero would also be helping in the 4 very high speed corners.

The ACR is just a very impressive car on track, and I was delighted to finally spend some time with one!

I was 6 seconds faster at INDE (2.75 mile track) (same day, same car) with Hoosiers versus Corsa's.

Great video. I'd say Kumho is half the speed difference compared to the TA. The aero accounts for the other half. A TA with rear Kumhos takes a track car to a very very capable track car. Nice driving.

I definitely didn't really keep up with him on Corsa's, but he did graciously ease up now and then so I could video him. It surely would have been a lot closer had we been on the same tires, but once he starts using more of his available down force I wouldn't stand a chance regardless of tire.

I wouldn't trade my Corsa's for the Kumho's or Hoosiers because of how I use the car, but if the TA were track only I'd definitely upgrade. I rode in the ACR that SRT had at the track at NVE2 and couldn't believe the grip at the end of the front straight going into T1. Made my TA feel like it was skating through there on ice.

I ran my TA Hard at Laguna and Sonoma on Hoosiers. My ACR is 4 seconds per lap quicker which is a lifetime in racing. The traffic will equal it out a bit as you can just nudge past them like a race.

Thanks! I really enjoy tracking with Porsche track rats, and there are always a few at every track day I do. Great bunch of passionate guys that really know their stuff. Props to Porsche and PCA for all their efforts. Love to see more Vipers out there...and hopefully these kind of track videos will inspire a few others!!!

How did you mount your camera?

Thanks! I have a dashcam attached to a small metal bracket which is then attached to the bulkhead with 2 sided foam tape. The picture shows the L bracket, and the camera base with power cord attached to it. The camera just slides onto the mount. Plug power cord into power accessory outlet between the seats when I head out on track and that auto powers up the camera.

I was on heavily worn and heat cycled stock Corsas tires. Pretty amazing with thousands of miles from Canada to the Gulf and back for NVE2, another long road trip, and 5 track days! One more to go on Oct 3rd and I'll need a new pair of fronts!

I might have finally discovered how to make these tires perform and last while kicking GT3 RS grade butt!

Thanks. I checked the date stamps on the tires today and the fronts are Nov 14 and rears Sept 13. That's just really old, and it'll be interesting to see how times vary with new rubber next year. This set has been incredibly consistent according to data logging. Very impressed with these tires.
