    Do I win an award

For first viper with repairable body damage?

My father in law backed into it.

    Stored in my garage.

I think my wife is more upset than me, I am containing my rage well so far.

Not the end of the world, easy fix. Why lose it for something that you can no longer control and can be fixed??....not worth it. Look at it this way, no little kid got ran over, no injuries, just a little damage. I'll take that over the 100's of worse outcomes auto accidents often produce.

Now the fun part, ........since it was your wife's dad, good time to guilt her into making it up to you

Damn Harold, that sucks! This reminds me of just a couple of months ago when my new Camaro was up on a shop's lift getting suspension work, and they lowered the car with the door open. Major damage, but all fixed now. Water under the bridge.

Be thankful you have a solid color, very easy to repaint. Times like this make me second guess getting my Stryker Red tri-coat!

Ouch! If it wasn't for the wrecked one at the drag strip we all saw the pic of (I wonder what happened there?) then you'd definitely win the award. That settles it, with a less than perfect carfax you may as well burn it to the ground, it's worthless now! Or you could just enjoy the hell out of it when it's repaired to new condition. I know that's what I'll be doing now that I have a major warranty claim that would keep most buyers away. No more worries about keeping the miles low!

My new C6 Vert fresh off the showroom floor was backed into by my commercial tenant after 14 days of ownership. Totally blows.

3 day old baby and no sleep, just another thing I didn't want to have to deal with.

    Just frustrating.

Sounds like you need a bigger Garage?

    But Seriously,
Very sorry to hear your news, So is it just paint or a little more? Trouble is if you go down the insurance route that may flag up a problem on a Carfax type report in the future. Totally Sucks
Not sure on your cover but it may too affect your renewing insurance premium too (unless you have claim protection)

Insurance may work slightly differently in the USA?

FYI Carfax history only reports when police file an accident report. Hopefully it gets fixed quickly and it's in your rear view mirror, how bad was the hit?

I wouldn't file an insurance claim, nor would I work with a shop that would report it to Carfax.

I was planning to get the entire car repainted anyway within a year or two to Orange, but with this it just looks like shit right now.

It is so cold I can't even use rinseless car wash to clean it off to see if I can clay it.

But, there are markings on the bumper and rear fascia.

Even more annoying was his car has a backup camera. I just don't feel like dealing with this at all, so many other things. Oh well, not like I can drive the car with 9* temperatures out.

we have a steep slope to get into it. my wife and i were taking the baby to her first appointment in the other bay of the garage, as I was pulling out i heard a "crunch" - of him backing into the car (wife had him over to do something for her in the house).

i didn't even have time to look at it. Now I am home it is both the rear fascia and bumper that are scraped up.

I am not mad (because in the end it is a car), I am just annoyed.

Without a doubt I will drive mine to death - I don't think we all mind (as much) when it is our own stupidity that causes damage to the car!

    I bought a Lexus IS350 in 2008

A week after I bought it terrible ice storm. Driving over a bridge and they hadn't put salt down. Girl in front of me slammed on her breaks and just ugh.

Happens to the best of us.

I had just bought a new Nissan Z car off the showroom floor. Orange on orange. A hail storm started and pellets the size of quarters started to come down. Luckily I was right near a garage to a shopping mall and I pulled in until it passed with no damage.

Here we go, finally got around to inspecting - I tried to spray it with rinseless wash to clean and try to clay

but with it being so cold the spray froze to the car. i really need a heater in the garage

  21. #21
I doubt clay will take that off, but a good wet sanding and buffer will make it like new. Sorry to hear this, sucks, but like others say it is better then what could happen.

yeah i rubbed it with clay. got most of the stuff off, but it is rough. i'll see what a body shop says.

agree worst could happen - just frustrating thats all. i think half of it is wife is realizing her dad is getting old (i mean he is only 70, but still)

It doesn't look bad at all. Like what Mark said will probably just need some wet sanding. Was there any damage underneath?

  24. #24
As mentioned a little wet sand done by the right individual may have that looking as good as new

Thanks guys, I'll look around for a good detailer first and if all else fails, paint it. Hopefully a good detailer can fix it like new.
