So is it because the glass puts too much upward pressure on the rubber and basically pulls it apart? Is it possible to make it so the glass doesn't travel so high?

Yes. There is a travel stop on the rear rail.

Also - The full length weatherstrips are in and are being shipped to me soon.

I will be doing an install without taking anything apart (I believe it is possible for the outer weatherstrip) and doing an install with the panel off as well - for testing.

The stop is to the left of the rubber bumper. It looks to be a torx fastener.

I replaced my entire driver's side stanchion in 2014. I bought it from a Dodge dealer and with the employee discount it was still around $475.00. They told me it was the last one that Dodge had in inventory. I don't know if that's true or not, but I am glad I got it. Installation wasn't too difficult, just a little tedious. I used an DIY I found on VC.

I have the strips now, cut my first test Weatherstrip tonight. It worked far better that I expected. I removed the good passenger side OEM Weatherstrip (just to see how it was done) on the passenger side.

NEW Weatherstrip is thinner and more flexible on the rub side that the thick OEM one (less pressure to pop off if bumped).
The mounting area section of the weatherstrip is stronger than OEM.
Also the new strip has a lip that curls around the Outer Stanchion for greater attach surface as well as a second fuzzy channel (on the mounting section) that rubs the window side (instead of just 1 rub strip on the OEM weatherstrip). The window rests against these channels when going up and down.

I actually just placed the unglued new weatherstrip against the outer stanchion for a fit check and it stayed there without falling off, so I tried the window up and down and the new unglued one never moved. With the 3M adhesive it won't budge.

My next test will be to install the Drivers side NEW weatherstrip without removing anything, with just prepping the glue area and sliding the new one onto the stanchion.

If I can perfect this on my 750 mile 1997 GTS - to look and work better than OEM - I will have met my goal.

I am working on the prep and install instructions as well.

this weatherstrip could be cut to go all the way up the window, if someone does not have a top rubber gasket. in fact I was thinking of doing that to mine, but I am chicken since you can't get replacements and I have so few miles on my GTS.

Are there any volunteers to try this? I am in western MD and would install it for free (for the knowledge). PM me if interested.

No one wants their weatherstrip fixed for free????? (limited time offer, for 1 or 2 lucky people).

I'm interested in this. I'd be willing to go without the top corner rubber end. Won't be able to get to this until April, but I'm interested in the weatherstripping.
