    Another blown Motor!

I know there's been a lot of angst lately on the board, but has any G5 experienced this?????

    (From Autoweek today)

Quick-thinking Mustang driver keeps this from getting any worse

This unlucky guy managed to find the breaking point of his new GT350. Autoblog found Joe Charles’ unfortunate story on Facebook of how his Shelby GT350 went from a perfectly wonderful Mustang into a fiery meteor in seconds.

Per Charles’ account of his disaster, he was traveling at about 125 mph down the front straight of Georgia's Roebling Road Raceway when he looked in his rearview and saw the huge 25-foot fireball trailing behind his car. He had been going at it for about 15 minutes when a catastrophic engine failure caused a massive oil leak. The oil proceeded to ignite on the hot exhaust, causing the main fuel line to rupture, in turn engulfing the bottom of the car in flames.

When Charles went to hit the brakes to slow down, he found that the heat from the fire had boiled the brake fluid, causing the pedal to go right to the floor. Next on the "oh crap" list was pulling the emergency brake, but the cable snapped when he yanked that up. After the entire braking system was a no-go, he threw it into first and dumped the clutch, allowing him to finally slow down about 30 feet from a corner station. They had fire extinguishers at the ready, and quickly put the fire out

The whole ordeal left the quick-reacting Charles with no injuries, but a fantastic tale to tell. Ford is taking the high road on this one and replacing his charred 2016 GT350 with a 2017 GT350R (pretty sweet upgrade warranty policy, Ford). We imagine he’ll have to try extra hard to set this one on fire.

I wonder if the GT350 forum is having a meltdown over this and talking class action lawsuit.

Is this true or part of some big joke? This seems like something that would be written on "the onion" car edition. Because he clearly did handle the situation well considering his ass was on fire, so kudos to him for that. But Ford handing him a brand new, upgraded car because of something that happened on the track is huge and basically unheard of. Isn't everyone with a 16 gonna try and start and oil leak now?

It is on the internet; so, it must be real !!! Here is the first-person post on the guy's facebook page and the video frame capture supposedly from another driver's in-car camera.

Read his write up. Excellent and amusing description of the incident, especially for those of us that do HPDE.
