2015 Viper Worries

I have a 2015 Viper with 900 miles on it, its still on the original oil from the dealer, I dont drive it much. Ive been reading about a few things to do with TSB/Recalls, I havent recieved any recall or TSB notices in the mail for my Viper but the oil consumption and engine failure thingy has me concerned....I havent even checked my oil thinking its a brand new car why should i have to do that....is finding out if you need the recalls as simple as calling a dodge dealer with my VIN # ?. anything else i need to address. The recalls , up until you purchased, should have been taken care of by the dealer before you took delivery.

You should definitely worry about your oil level if you've never checked it. On normal cars we all kinda blow off the owners manual, but you should read it on the viper. You need to check it regularly, they break in your car may use little or may drink it, low oil on a viper is a tragedy waiting to happen.

So, just check your oil regularly, and most recommend changing it now, first 500 miles or so is what most would say is a good point for clean oil. Cheap insurance. Other than that don't worry.

As noted above check your oil. However you likely only have r29 and they will do a simple mod and also change your oil for you. So schedule your appointment and let them know on the phone while recall you have. Fortunately there were very very few problems with the 2015 and up cars so don't lose sleep over this. Just use this as education to check your oil a bit as long as you pass the recall. You will be fine as will your car but get the recall done.

Also, just cause you get the r29 done doesn't mean you should not check your oil regularly. Manual says at every fuel stop after a 5 minute cool down. Definitely recommend doing that.

Get the oem stuff out asap. I changed the engine oil at 500 miles and again at 1000 miles. Rear diff oil changed at 1000 miles. Transmission will be changed next at 1500 miles.

Check your oil before you start the car again. Make sure it's ok, then check it again after driving it. Get it changed and I'd send some in to these guys for an analysis- http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ just to see if they see anything weird. Save your oil filter in a sealed bag as well!

Constantly checking the oil is ridiculous. Just change it every 180 days pursuant to the owners manual. 5 year power train warranty means it's their problem for the first 1/2 decade if you don't mod and if you properly maintain

There is a recall on the Uconnect radio because of a security gap that I think effects the 15s. Easy to do yourself with the updated software. There is also a TSB for the door node that controls the window. Water in a heavy rain can get inside the panel and short out the node. This causes the window to go down and/or not work at all. TSB replaces door node and harness (sills have to be removed), and insulates the node with a plastic shield. Had it done to my 15 TA.

Check your oil level at least every 100 miles, check it on a flat surface, within 5 minutes of shutdown. This is important.

Dipstick is nearly impossible to read unless you let the car sit overnight. There is no way to check this car's oil accurately warm. Even cold you only get one pull before it's impossible to read due to oil residue that remains in the dipstick holder.

BJG, agreed, hard to read. There has been endless debate here on the forums, I'm just going by what they engineers specifically revised the manual to say in 2014.

Yeah...I am sure it's been said before, but I just can't fathom why FCA gives oil checking instructions that are impossible to get accurate readings. This has to of lead to some of these blown engines. I checked my oil right after my engine blew and it read fine. Dodge said 2 quarts low....that's a huge variance. beating a dead horse here I know.

I have to agree with you, what happened to the simple lines with the "fill" or "low" oil markings.....f@$king stupid.

I check my oil, coolant and brake fluid levels every time I take my car out. I also look under the car for any fluid. It only takes a few minutes. No sweat.
