    No more US made cars

FCA announced no more US car production. Trucks and Jeeps will still be produced in the US. Other than the Viper, what cars are currently being produced in the US? I remember all the Road Runners, Chargers, GTXs, 340 Swingers, etc. Hate to see it happen, but business is business.

It just became so much cheaper to manufacture in Mexico, etc. For years though many of the parts were made in other countries. To the point where no vehicle was truly "made in the US". It was assembled here, but that was about it.

I do feel a shift among people in my demographic towards wanting U.S. Made products. I feel like younger people don't know a difference because they grow up with so many foreign products. But perhaps when they start looking for jobs they will have an opinion. I could be wrong about that. I suppose I don't really know what 18 yr olds think on the subject.

CAPITALISM at its FINEST!! EVERY time one buys a CHEAPER product-usually manufactured over seas- they SLOWLY "F..K" themselves- OUR manufacturing base in this country has been ERODED due to not only the desire for GREATER corporate profits- but also by the END USER themselves putting PRICE as the PREMIUM reason to purchase a product!! It's been 50 plus years in coming-but in essence we "f..ked" OURSELVES!! The EROSION of small business owners by larger BOX and INTERNET types has been escalating for years-it's SAD!! The SMALL business owner USED TO BE the life blood of the economy-now we are the DYING PATSIES of this ONCE powerful nation!! We are still the GREATEST country in the world IMO-just not as STRONG in certain areas which we STILL SHOULD BE STRONG!! A GOOD number of countries now produce not ONLY a less expensive product- BUT a higher QUALITY one as well!! This DILEMMA which we now face has taken YEARS to come about-KINDA SUCKS- but WE DID IT TO OURSELVES- EVERY AREA of this country did it to themselves!! Corporate, consumer, government : we are ALL to BLAME!! Get it cheaper-pollute the environment more in the process-make other countries wealthier-increase the lovely WELFARE and ENTITLEMENT STATE- the JOYS of PROFITS and CHEAPER PRICES-----YEAY!!!!

Mike I misunderstood your post as Jim did. I believe the regulatory boot, of unelected officials, on the throat of capitalist is causing decision to be made that might not otherwise be made. Just consequences playing out whether intended or unintended, I don't know. Thanks for clarifying.

Not defending , just reporting, but the larger cars ( Challengers, 300s, Chargers ) are built in Canada and have for a long time. Viper was the only car built in Detroit ( GM builds trucks ) ,and no cars, from any manufacturer actually will be built in Detroit proper after the Viper demise. This news is a repeat of the loss of the Dart and 200 to continued production by FCA. Reports of FCA working with Ford and others to build the small car platforms has been out for awhile. So really the news has been just amplified since the Viper is stopping production. With possibilities of ramped up Jeep production , one wonders if the Plants will be utilized in other ways ( Sterling Heights and Belvidere ).

That's where it is up to the government to step in and make some regulations or tax codes to support American made products. Other than providing basic services and security that is the governments only real job, is to protect its citizens from corporate greed. Everyone has a chance to get their say in and start a change in that direction this November.

The government is responsible for everything that is going on. Rules, regulations, and taxes have created why everything is heading out of this country. You want to pay more for US made products because of the extra costs generated by government mandates? The cost burdens that are added to the small business owner is intentional by the government, and to ask consumers to pay for that is never going to happen.

Yeah exactly. That is based off what your government has been doing. The government can change what it is doing and start creating rules that keep jobs in country and limit excessive profits to prevent corporations from overcharging for those products in an attempt to have the same profit margins as they did paying slave labor overseas.

If it hasn't started already, all Buicks are being built in China with the exception of one model. (I don't recall right this second which one it is).

We ALL had something to do with this. We want stuff cheap to make our money go further. Walmart has great sales because they sell cheap stuff not made in the USA and the very people who buy this stuff are the same ones who decry no jobs in America. Cause and effect really does happen and poor Sam Walton is probably spinning in his grave. But the good news is that more and more companies are finding out that US workers still are the best in the world and yes, some of them are union workers. But as long as we place price above all else, we will continue to have lots and lots of imports. Can't have it both ways.

Have to admit, when I have been on vacation in the USA, I like to buy things made in the USA but 70% of stuff seems to be made in China!
    Totally Nuts!
