Owners with the Arrow Heads and Cam package

I haven't been able to find a thread about owners and their experiences with this package so please feel free to merge if necessary. I was just wondering how everyone is enjoying their setup. As some may know on the forum I got TA Orange number 33 and it had the full H&C with no cats. It's completely transformed the car. It's absolutely got that growl of a cammed muscle car and just rets so much love from car people when I am out and about but it's also close to Woodward dream cruise time as well. When it gets quieter maybe my neighbors will get sick of hearing what sounds like a pissed off Harley in my driveway.

I'm getting used to the new Powerband and giving about 200rpm more in first gear. Backing up is still tricky as maintaining a low speed. How has your experiences been good and or bad. How has the reliability been? I spoke to Andy and he said to just keep an eye on oil levels and so far so good. No oil consumption.

Mine has been amazing! 3600 miles, 2 auto cross races, and 1 track event with no problems. The front Kuhmo tires are even holding up fine. No oil consumption or over heating. It's a monster on the track.

This is a great thread topic. I've been wondering the same thing. I don't have the H&C package but I was thinking about it. Someone at Hastings told me he wouldn't recommend it for a car driven a lot on the street though. On the track it seems to be the ticket. What about street driving? You know heading to the store or a cruise with the club?

Great to hear dfunk. I also am running no cats and it's such a great sound but highway drone is bad. Debating adding high flow cats. If I am not the original owner will Tomball send over the build sheet of what they did to the previous owners car? Do they provide Dyno info?

It's great to have 740+hp which from what I've read is a safe and very usable power level for tracking and cruising while still being able to have an engine easily capable of going over 100k tics on the odometer. I plan to keep my TA indefinitely. Looking forward to other input. The other threads I read all got derailed over price or if it's worth it and was an eyesore

Why wasn't it recommend? Was it due to being unusable power? I'm still adjusting to first gear. I was advised by Andy to add an extra 200rpm which helped prevent stalling. It's a bit challenging maintaining low speed but definitely the benefits of the sound and just adding extra rpm make up for it. The only real problem getting groceries is that people won't take a quick picture... They want to film you!

Here's all the reasons you need for heads and cam. The sound, the pull, the feel, just amazing.

Drone is not bad to me. Full ARH exhaust with no cats. I've been thinking about building my own cat back with racing mufflers. It's not loud enough for me.

Let me add a little :

    1. The change in the power band from 5000 to 6500 is hard to believe.

    2. If someone from the outside hears one start and idle, they seem transfixed.

    3. Something that no one comments on is the change in throttle response , Arrow changed the throttle response in the pcm.

    4. Personally, I do not think any NA car pulls harder on a dragstrip in 3rd and 4th gear.

I've read in general the clutches go fast so budget for one. do they go much earlier? My driving is a lot of normal cruising, maybe a few 1/4 mile passes and a track day a year. Help me understand why they go faster, it can't be from managing the lack of low end torque and then the extra high end torque is it?

I've had my TA with h/c since jan and have been driving it regularly on the street and a couple of track days. The car is phenomenal with its power band and never had any issues so far. No oil consumption or anything out of the norm, to get a better understanding drive a stock gen v and you'll know the difference, it should of came that way from the factory. Never had an issue with clutch as its been holding fine but I might upgrade to Nth Moto RPS carbon clutch for the lightweight design and as it'll help a lot in heal and toeing on track, as my main purpose of the car is to drive it on a road track.

Such a beautiful build. I also agree with the above that the viper should have come from the factory this way. My 15 GT stock was so tame. I knew it was faster but the powerband and the delivery just was too underwhelming. My gen 2 felt faster despite being much slower.

One thing that surprised me the most at the track was how well it put the power down. It can safely handle more.

my experience has been amazing. i had the heads cam package done at 12k miles and when i got it back it was like a whole new car. i love the idle, the power increase, the feeling that the car has taken a 100 shot of n2o above once you get above 5k rpms and how it shakes at stop lights. i'm getting close to 20k miles so 8k miles with h/c and have had zero issues.
here's my thread with my numbers, I hit 641/590 SAE on 91 with cats and stock mufflers.

By the way, Andy said there are updates in the tune for heads/cam. i sent my spare PCM for flash, has anyone already received it? any feedback?

I wonder the total number of packages that have been completed so far. It's pretty cool to have the Arrow team working with VE so closely I don't think it gets any better than that for quality and insightful engineering. So far it's been nothing but happy customers.

I think mine was #25 from VE. The build was completed late March. I picked the car up April 1st and drove it 1100 miles home.

Probably because those that have the HC drive the cars a bit more aggressive.

Do not assume the car lacks low end torque. Once you get above 2000 rpm, it is all business.

Also keep in mind, the oem clutch does not like slicks, that is probably the biggest reason for changing the clutch.

Dick uploaded the new tune for me at NOLA. Not sure what all the new tune was designed to improve but low speed drive ability was one of them. Some of the low rpm/low speed surging is gone. I didn't really notice any difference in performance on the track. I don't think I would worry about updating unless it is convenient or we find out that something else more impactful was in the update.

Thank you. I can live with the drivability.

This may be a stupid question but if I'm in Michigan could I have Arrow reflash the tune or are they out of play at this point?

I'd give them a call. Prefix Performance has a Viper Concierge service that will do work on your viper. I was there getting an estimate for exhaust install and possibly headers. Arrow is supposed be in house with them soon.

Great to know and fantastic for those in it around Michigan to have them work on any issues with these built motors. I'm in Birmingham so they are five minutes away when they move to prefix!
