Do your homework on the car long before you even think about committing. I bought mine from a member here via the facebook page. I did more research and asked for more photos than you can imagine. I had friends asking through friends if they knew about the car. In the end, when I flew down to NC from MA to look at the car, I had every intention of buying the car, which I did.
It's all about the backend work you do before you commit.
Speaking of Viper Tech's, does anybody know of a good one in Centeal Florida region?
DO NOT RELY ON CARFAX REPORTS
In 2010 I purchased a Gen 2 GTS. Had the car inspected by a Phoenix Dodge dealership who also ordered a CarFax report. CarFax reported a good clean title car.
After 7 years of enjoying a great car I finally had to sell it and move on. A buyer flew in to drive the car and loved it, the guy is an experienced road racer. He ordered a new CarFax report and we found a accident occurred in 2003 which was not reported in my CarFax report. Not only did they not report the accident of 2003 but also didn't report that the insurance company had declared the car a TOTAL LOSS. But that revision wasn’t posted on the CarFax report until 2013, a full 10 years after the accident and 3 years after I bought the car.
I hired a professional assessor company to investigate and sure enough the NEW report was accurate. We challenged CarFax and with errors and omissions violation and asked for compensation for the discount I had to take on the sale of the car. In a typical legal response they said “Screw you”.

CarFax is just another arrow to your bow when shopping, its not foolproof, it relies on evidence from insurance companies.
What about all the repairs people have done in a bodyshop and not put it through insurance as their premiums will be affected, I expect there are plenty of those!
Just bought mine... Couldn't pass it up... Don't care if anyone knows the price either...
