There are some shady -shady -shady sellers out there.

I have had 3 deals falls through lately.

Two sellers claimed clean cars, clean carfax, no paint, no accident. Only to pay for the Auto check, and see they were totaled.

Last one disclosed the AC is broken AFTER the deal was agreed to, after buying non-refundable tix, ect. Then trys to keeps the deal the same with broken AC.

Do all your homework before spending money on tix ect. Better yet find a local car. This is getting fking ridiculous with lying a.ss sellers.

Over the phone- typically people like this would never dare face to face. He also admitted that he factored broken AC into his price, but never happened to share that with me, the buyer. I now wouldn't buy the car from him at any price. ALWAYS walk away when someone thinks they have 'leverage' since you bought a ticket and try to change the deal.

Side note. He literally had the headlights and tail light 'sprayed' with something to tint them. Not a film you can peel of. So that would have been another 1500 to fix.

Not true. You could sand the coating off and then wetsand and buff and they would be good as new.

I've been on both sides of this argument buying cars online. I'm a BIG fan of pictures in high resolution, and doing a little research on the seller. I've made a lot of mistakes buying in the past, and am now fairly confident when purchasing.

The headlights are an easy fix. A body shop could do them for about $300-$500 and that would include a new clear coat (with UV).

The seller could have just not told you about the compressor and let you go on your way. My guess is he didn't feel like giving it away and that's the reason he would not budge after troubleshooting the issue. I mean it's a clean, non wrecked 2000 ACR with descent mileage for low $30Ks (currently $32K). It even has the ACR rims that you could sell for 3k or so. Either way good luck with your search.

In my opinion, this is exactly what you pay for when going through our respected dealers. As you said you spent money on tickets, planned for time off, etc and the deal fell through. Aside from the money of tickets, what's your time, effort, and headaches worth? Sure you pay about 3 grand more. But you know you are getting a good car and no hassles. If nothing else, you are paying for peace of mind.

My first Viper I bought through Marv Rose for this very reason. I honestly think we are lucky to have some good sponsoring dealerships who you know you will get a good car from and will back up their product.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck. Most of the people in the community and on here are good people and straight shooters. I hope you don't judge the community by the people you dealt with recently. (Going by your name you may not be new to the community but I wasn't sure.)

There's a flip side to this equation from a Sellers perspective. I recently sold my clean 2003 Gen 3 through Auto Trader and had all kinds of interesting prospective buyers contact me. Most tried to beat me down on price and one tried a fraudulent move that deserves repeating. He offered full retail (red flag?) and said he was from North Dakota and would have someone pick up the car. He also stated that he would not pay cash but would pay through pay pal. When I told him that pay pal does not guarantee auto sales for the buyer or seller...that was the last I heard from him. I reported the incident to Auto Trader and they verified it was a scam and turned it over to the authorities. I especially enjoyed one of the prospective buyers that told me I would never get what I was asking for the car and reminded me it was a 2003, not a 2006. The next day, I informed him that it sold for asking price. That felt good. So...there are definitely good sellers and buyers out there. Just takes a lot of due diligence and patience. Hope you find what you are looking for.

When I was looking to buy a gen 1 a number of years ago...I went on some wild goose chases before I bought my '96.

For better or worse, it's not just Vipers. I've looked at lots of collector cars over the years that weren't as described.

But I do know how you feel. Same thing happened to me but it was an honest mistake on the seller's part. It made me back out on the deal, because I wondered what else they weren't disclosing. I don't know....there are always going to be good deals out there. A person just needs to be patient which is often the hardest part...
There's currently a 99gts supercharged near me for mid $20's...and the seller is NOT trying hard to sell it, that's for sure. He gives one or two word responses to emailed questions lol. If a person is selling cheap, does it matter though? I don't need him to wine and dine me if you know what I mean.

To everyone buying cars out of state--- ALWAYS ask the seller to take the car to a local dealership
(for Viper a dealership with a VIPER TECH) in his area for a PRE SALE INSPECTION. You choose the dealership not him/her
The cost for the inspection will be on you to pay
As far as CARFAX- not always accurate but something to go by, if they want you to pay for it tell them you want them to
deduct that price from the sale of the car(sellers should provide this) fair is fair
