Question KBB Vs. Reality $$$ 2013 Base

    Hey Guys,

I've been looking to buy a Gen V here for a few months now. Thought I had the perfect deal but passed due to the car being a buyback..

I have now found car #2 and have come to a round about number with the owner on the car.

Before I go ahead and start booking my flight and schedule the pickup I wanted your guys input on this also...

    2013 Base SRT Viper

    10K miles

    passed R28

    Original Tires

KBB Has this thing pretty low... Private Sale in good condition 57,600... If my research is correct this cars value is about 10-12k+ North

I am asking for some more "Seasoned" interpretations of the value of the car. I know Kbb and Nada can be a bit off vs the actual market on some certain vehicles

    Thanks in advance,

    Tyler

I did a ton of research before buying my TA. I think a fair deal would be 65-70k if the car is clean - what color is it?. I have seen some base models even go below 65k but have stories. G luck!

Thanks alot for your input. it is Red. with no stories... that i know of right now.

If money didnt matter i would have an orange T/A! Sweet ride!

You say it is Red, and SRT. Is it a Track Pack car (like mine?) If so, KBB is way off. I think mid-60s more in line.

Thanks!! The orange was my #1 choice so I'm so happy I held out. The red G5s look great but I have seen them go cheaper than other colors. You may have some negotiating power but if it's a clean, no stories car I think mid 60s is a fair deal. Keep us posted!

BTW, have you checked out other models? Not sure what your car history is but definitely recommend you trying the different models to see the ride differences and options offered. Big differences IMO between the base and TA or GTS. The base models are an amazing value no doubt!

I just picked up a used 2013 SRT gunmetal pearl with 1900 miles. Track pack, leather, and Harman Kardon and I paid 72k and I bought it from a Chrysler dealership if that helps put a value on the one your looking at.

This car wasn't under the R28 recall. It did have the R29 recall but that was just replacing the driver side valve cover.

I have a red 2013 track pack car that I purchased new at the end of 14. The car currently has 6k miles and if I was going to sell it I would list it in the low 72-74k range. For a mint lower mile car I would expect to pay at least 70k.

In the 60s.. It's a great deal. If it is at 70k then it's a decent deal but I wouldn't pay anything over 72-73k for it.

KBB and Nada are only correct when it comes to regular cars like Camry, Accord etc

This is absolutely correct. Limited production cars/exotic cars cannot be accurately valued by publications such as KBB. In fact, if you are looking at purchasing the car with a loan from a financial institution, the loan officer might need to consult with an underwriter to get an accurate value for the car as collateral for the loan. They aren't able to simply pull up the book value and approve the loan in situations like this. Someone with a far greater knowledge of what the market is for the vehicle has to make the decision as to whether or not the value of the car is sufficient to cover the financial institution's advance of funds.

Mileage is high but it sounds like a trade in price.

Mileage isn't high for a Gen V, 3k a year is nothing for them.

    +1

I have owned my Viper now for 3 weeks and I have already put almost 700 miles on it already. I am driving it everywhere and loving it.

I can see myself easily putting 7k+ miles a year on this car.

Same as above. I got my 2013 SRT base, 7k miles (with leather and Grand Touring package) for right at $70k, from a Dodge dealer. If you find a no stories car for under $60k, buy it. Then flip it.

There are deals to be had... I know, I bought a SRT with touring package, upgraded leather and $110k MSRP.

$57k would be an absolute steal.

I saw the dealer buy back that you are referencing, that is a gorgeous 2014 with a $130k MSRP. The carfax was UGLY... 3 owners and a manufacturer buy back due to engine replacement (oil consumption). If you bought it and drove it, it's a good price at $66k-$67k.

A base SRT car should be in the $65k-$70k range depending on mileage, condition and options.

I'd be fine with a base model that had TA aero parts on it, wheels, drop and call it a day.

Are only Gen V's worthless to you people? because the other Gens get all the money. ha

I feel as if there are two ways to look at this. As for the quality of car and realistically how rock solid a Viper is, then I agree with you 100%. These cars (all Vipers) love to be driven hard and could probably take the abuse on most components easily to 100,000 miles. The one thing that I always use as a comparison are the GenIII's, somebody will complain when a car has 25,000 miles on it, but yet people will still pay a premium for an SRT 10 Ram that has 50,000 miles on it. Having had two SRT 10 Rams (still own one) I've seen guys beat the Hell out of these trucks and easily get over 100,000 miles on them, some that have even been sprayed while at the track! On the other hand, if you look at a lot of the Vipers that are out there for sale rarely do you see GenV's at or over 10,000 miles, and there are still quite a few GenIV's for sale with under 10,000 miles. If you were to pull an average I bet the annual mileage for a Viper can't be much more than 1,000-2,000. You have to remember all of us up in the northern parts of the country only get about half the year to drive them.
