Seriously who breaks a timing chain...

Recently at the track, my '99 ACR died with a cam position sensor code. I pulled the cam sensor out, it's in pieces. It appears the timing chain is busted, as the cam doesn't move when spinning the crank (just a small hint I know). The cam is also sticking out further as the new cam sensor won't go all the way in. I can also feel the timing chain through the cam sensor hole and it doesn't feel very tight. Fantastic.

I took the drivers side valve cover off, and 1 pushrod is busted in half, and it appears the lifter is gone too (I pulled a roller from a lifter from out of the cam area). I'm guessing the valve got smacked by the cylinder, but the crazy part is that the engine wasn't under a big load when it happened. It had been missing for like 30 seconds and then it just went, so either the chain stretched before it went, or the pushrod/lifter went and rolled around and eventually took the cam/chain with it. The pushrods were the weak link the in valve train so I'm hopeful that I didn't bend a valve

I've built and wrenched on every inch of this car over the years, but now with a baby and a toddler, I just don't have the time or energy to rip the damn thing completely apart yet again (this would be the 3rd time taking the heads off of it). The car has a ported top end, stock cam, and all other supporting track mods (big brakes, freshly rebuilt koni's, baffled oil pan, catch cans, seats, etc). Made 525hp at the wheels.

I couldn't be more frustrated. I had just finished welding up a corsa exhaust on the thing so I could take my daughter for rides without worrying about her getting ear damage. I guess I'll get a quote from one or two places, but I also really don't want to worry about anyone else doing a half assed job on it. Rant over.

I've broke a timing chain just after a full NA build 522 stroker (yes Gen3 crank in a gen2), GG heads and a crower custom cam, dry sump...ect ect ect.

But it was super frustrating. Mine was Caused from the wrong length timing chain due to the offset ground crank. Where are you located, we can all pick our brains and find a good place near-ish to you.

I have someone I would trust with it here in Arizona. But where are you located, as it will help people send you to a good place.

    Sorry about the bad luck.

I don't see how an offset ground crank would have any effect on the timing chain. As long as your referring to a crank that has had the rod journals offset ground to achieve additional stroke. Now if the block was line bored for a different set of caps and it wasn't money then I could see that happening.

ACR_VP sorry to hear of your troubles! Sounds like its time for a complete teardown............

Thanks all, I'm in neohio, I'm going to start with mccann racing as they are just down the street from me, but I'm guessing that since it's in the middle of race season that they won't have time to do anything till the winter. Just a guess I haven't talked to them yet, but will be giving them a call this afternoon. I know arrow's only 3 hours away, but beyond those two I have no clue.

Spoke to dick at arrow and starting conversations with dan at viper specialty... seriously considering giving it the gen4 treatment and selling my existing top end after it's all cleaned up of course.

Your in great hands with either of those two. I'd go that route over a set of Gen II castings any day!

Thanks, leaning towards arrow at the moment but nothing is set. Anyone know what the least amount of crap I need to take off to be able to pull the entire engine?
