Detroit Auto Show: ACR or roadster?

NAIAS in a week , what are your predictions: Will we see the introduction of the ACR or the new roadster?

I think Ralph said the roadster wouldn't come out for about 21 months. Reading the article I wouldn't be surprised at some point if they bring back the ACR; but the author is saying they will wait to see what the C7 Z06 has before bringing back the ACR. That's interesting in that I believe the TA would already beat anything Chevy does to the C7 Z06. Besides the ACR was always in competition with the ZR1, not the Z06.

I've been thinking all along that we'll see the ACR at the 2014 NYIAS. Ralph stated a while back that the ACR will come before the roadster. However, if an ACR was unveiled at Detroit, it would sure steal some thunder.

It makes sense for them to wait for the C7 Z06 to come out first, and then move forward with the new ACR. The new Z06 is rumored to have between 650-670 hp, with big carbon ceramic brakes, and new aero..

Agreed. I would rather see SRT wait and trump the Corvette. A roadster could help Viper sales no doubt. We already have SRT, GTS and TA coupe, no need for an ACR just yet IMO.

I don't think anything will be at Detroit. Chrysler's biggest market the last few years has been the tri-state area. So as far as debuts for anything new I would bet my bottom dollar it would happen here. (Durango, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Mopar Charger, Avenger, Viper have all taken place at NYIAS, Challenger was at Chicago and Philly)

Don't forget...Z06 isn't to far away. My bet would be that being the 'biggest surprise' at NAIAS. Along with the C7.R's official debut just before the 24 at Daytona.

    Maybe both

The ZO6 could have 900hp, if they don't change up the a$$ end and some other cosmetic aspects of the car I wouldn't buy it...end of story.

I don't see that. The Z06 has always been their track car and for that reason I think we will see a very healthy, high tech NA motor. 900hp would take some form of FI which leads to heat soak. To me the Z06 was always the all around better performer with the ZR1 having the bragging rights. Lets face it, these cars are being built for track times, that's all anyone seems to compare anymore. High HP means very little anymore, it's all about the complete packages and the track isn't opposed to showing a cars faults, it lives for it. Too much power that can't be properly applied to the chassis is just for egos.

Ralph said 21 months from when on roadster? We already have two production years of the gen V. IMO they need something new for 2015. I'd consider upgrading my GTS coupe to a roadster or ACR, which ever is made 1st.

Lots of new cool stuff coming out with similar price point; the competition has never been stiffer

The Z06 is going to steal the show.

The Gen IV ACR sold in very limited quantities. I can see Chrysler releasing the 'vert before the ACR because it will be more profitable. Ralph made it clear in his MT interview that the ACR wont be available for the 2015MY and that the Cuda wont be happening. A Challenger refresh is what is coming. Maybe a track version.

Isn't the new camaro the same price as the new corvette? Smh

Good point on the ACR; there's still "new" ones listed that haven't sold since 2010 lol

There is a local dealer that still has a new 2008 coupe lol.

Wow that's 6 years old; is it still listed for the same price it had 6 years ago?

Wonder what will happen to all of the unsold 13's? Probably the same thing?

I think you missed my point, to me the C7 is a butt ugly video game car designed by a 12 year old. I scrutinize the car and see dozens of faults so even if it had 900hp I wouldn't buy it unless they changed quite a few things.

Actually Dan you need to take off your rose colored glasses and be a little more open minded. GM has actually done a pretty darn good job cranking out a mass produced car that can run with the Viper. A 650 -700 Horsespower Z06 will kill our cherished Vipers and hand our a$$ to us on a platter. Open your eyes Viperdan as the competition is a lot tougher than you really can see or would want to admit.

The Z06 will not be 700HP, the Z07 did very well with only 505 - you don't need super HP to kill tracks, I don't know why people think you do.

Anyway, this is about the ACR, we will see what if anything SRT cranks out early this year. I hope to see the ACR, but doubtufl.

I don't think a convertible is an upgrade over a coupe---just a matter of individual choice or preference.

Weren't 40% of orders in the last gen for the vert?

Maybe upgrade was the wrong word; change is really what I meant.

Hope it's a targa top but I suppose it will be a vert.

I didn't miss the point, I chose to overlook it. Somebody else will by the car you don't, the Corvette always sells well. I agree on the ass end of the car, it's the part that I don't like either.

I hope it is at least two years before they roll out an ACR if they do.

SC ZO6 was something that GM has hinted at as well as a twin turbo ZR1 with @ 750 HP

And someone will marry the porn star too, not me though. You're correct in that someone will always buy the Corvette, the new C7 in my eyes is a joke! Sadly the public seems to feel that way of our beloved Gen V so it goes to show how subjective a subject it can be.

Actually Hollywood no I don't! I never said the competition isn't tough, I did say that I think the C7 is a joke. FYI in my garage is a 2013 427 vert which in essence is a ZO6 w/out the aluminum frame and roof. I like the car a lot but I have not drank the C7 Kool-Aid nor will I. Having crawled all over the C7 I can't figure out why anyone would buy it and I'm mot just referring to the styling, the fit and finish sucks, the interior is average at best, the LT1 is a nice motor but not much more than the LS3 was and certainly not an LS7. You're entitled to your opinion as am I, for me if I buy another Corvette it will be a C8 if the car survives until then. GM as a company is a bunch of frauds, it's a shame the morons running it ran it into the ground. And here is a tidbit for you, the C7 and the Z28 were at the Ring in the fall, they announced the Z time to be around 7:37 on a wet track yet no one has ever heard what the C7 has done, my guess is b/c it was unflattering.
