Am I the only one this happens to or is it common....sometimes my wipers 'run into each other' and get stuck in the middle of the windshield. I can't reach them from inside and have to stop, get out and basically pry the tips apart.

Mine quit working all together. I replaced the driver side motor and it fixed it.
Never happened to my '02 and never read of it happening on the forums.
Just an idea. It would be very easy for someone to have installed a wiper clocked one groove off. The wipers are mounted on a splined shaft with many grooves; so, installing one groove off might not be very obvious. I do not know if what you are experiencing would be a possible result. I carefully marked mine before I removed them. (Removed them to get the cowl cover off to replace the spark plug wires at the ignition coils ends.)
Make sure the drivers side wiper is mounted on top of the passenger side, when at rest.
One wiper quit working on the '96 GTS. But replacing the motor on that side may or may not fix it. I believe one controls the operation of both even though they are separate. So, some diagnosis is in order before buying anything...
When the wipers are turned on does one move smoothly and one act very erratic? The Gen1/2 wiper motors have a timing sensor in them to keep them from running into each other. If that sensor fails then it will cause on side to act erratic. If this is the issue you are having then you will need to replace the motor that is acting normal. Not the one that is acting up. The sensor has failed in the motor thats running normally and the other one is doing what it thinks it needs to be doing to keep up.
Appears to be installed correctly and not clocked...it doesn't happen all the time...it has happened twice in two years.....both times where when rain was light and I was manually cycling wipes occasionally.
