ACR Extreme owners - how is the car for street use?

I know many bought these ACRE's as track toys but I also know many drive them on the street. I'm assuming you are not running the fully splitter setup on the street...

    1. How does the car behave on public roads?
    2. Is it a nightmare to drive when you are not on the track?
    3. Is the suspension so stiff that it is just torture to drive it?
    4. How steep of grade/driveway can you drive up without the rear diffuser or front dragging?
    5. Are there any practical things you can do to the car to make it a bit more livable for street driving?
    6. How does the TA compare to the ACRE when it comes to street driving? Dramatic difference? Comparable?

My brothers Huracan has a front lift air suspension. I'd love to see that on a Viper but I doubt it can work with the coilover setup on the ACRE.

It's interesting some people say the ACRE is horrible and a nightmare to drive on the street, and other people say it's great and a non-issue. Thoughts?

    Dude... Its still a Viper.
If you could blind fold someone they most likely couldnt tell the difference while driving a base SRT over a ACRE while going to their local starbucks to stare at someone elses wax job.

The only issue would be all the bits hanging down from the front and back.

Also Search on the forum as this is asked once a month. Same with the airlift suspension question.

Its on the forum. A vendor even listed the companies that make the kit.

they are not called "airlift" ... little creativity with your searches bro!

    Renegade,

I notice no difference between my ACR-E and my TA...

    Just fine.

How are the tires after you get a few thousand miles on them if you get stuck in the rain ? Has anyone changed the tires out for street use or plan to do that ?

I hated it home shopping. It so not a DD car. It is loud, suspension is extremely stiff, drones a lot. Anyone that tells you otherwise is delusional. GTS 1 of 1 or something else for a car on the the street.

I've got 3000 miles on mine so far. Front lip hasn't touched anything yet and I lowered mine 1.5". You just have to know how to drive a lowered car.

I think ride is comparable to my TA, my wife thinks it rides better than the TA did.

Well, I Went With The Active Tractive Suspension In My ACR, And Wound Up Changing Out The ACR Springs For The Standard T/A Spring, Much More Streetable, And It Is Now A Pleasure To Drive, It Rides Awesome Now , Before It Rode Like Shit ,Way Too Stiff For The Street, I Hated It, On Certain Concrete Roads It Was Horrible, Shipped The Car To Mike Lavitas, At TPC Racing And He Redid The Shocks , Redid My Alignment,And Lowered The Ride Height, And Set The Rear Plus 7 Degrees, And Rides Killer, Also Updated The Software To The Latest, With The Optional Exhaust Cut Out That Is Coming Out Shortly. So Know I Got An ACR That Rides Like A T/A, For The Street. And Will Adjust Auto, When I Want To Be Agressive With The Car

I have heard the Gen V ACR rides much better than the Gen IV ACR. If you re going to track the car a lot get the ACR. If you are going to drive it mainly on the street and just track it a bit get the TA 2.0. That's my opinion. I've seen the 2.0 in person and think it looks really good. The areo is just the right amount for a car that will spend most of its life on the street and just a few days on the track. That being said if you want a race car get the ACR-E. The noise and ride are all part of the fun.

no complaints here other than the horrible 3 speaker stereo that is easily changed. I have drag cars that drive like a sled full of bricks, the ACR is luxurious compared to that.

Couldn't disagree more. I can't imagine not ordering THE top of the line Greatest Viper of all time while you still can and instead ordering a TA2.
First time you park near an ACR you'll kick your own ass.

ACR-E is a pleasure to drive on the street. With springs adjusted for the street ride is acceptable. The car has so many creature comforts and seat and pedal adjustments that driving position and driving are enjoyable on the street. With the front splitter on, the car cannot go up an incline of greater than 5 degrees without scraping so strongly recommend the front splitter be removed for the street. However, the rear diffuser with the strakes added gives about 3 more inches of clearance in the rear and has not been a problem. My clearance in the front with splitter on and ride height set for the track only gives 3.5 inches of clearance.

Agree with Augdog 100%: same (maybe even better) as TA-2

Delusional bull... better than TA... I did get the GTS interior in mine... no drone whatsoever, and I got the HK sound system... love it.

Hearing kuhmo will last 200 track miles or 4k street miles. Is this the case?

I have 3k street miles on mine, they look to be at 70% or so still.

Ha. I agree. I didn't say it looked better. I just said the 2.0 looks good. If you want the baddest, top of the line, monster, get the ACR no question. Just realize it's built for the track over the street. It's all about priorities.

You don't order something because it's “top of the line,“ the term is relative to the intended function. Is the ACR "top of the line" in terms of serving as a DD? No, not even close, however as a track car sure, it definitely up their with the best. If the OP wants consistent use of the vehicle on the street, my opinion is stay away, it's harsh as hell. GTS 1 of 1 is a fantastic choice. Let's not kid ourselves, few of us could even extract the track potential of a stock GTS

Speak for yourself, man. I want the best of the best - even if it is not always used or driven to it's potential.

Precisely. Some people just like to own the best there is. Seriously ACR .... Complaining about the ride quality in a race car while taking it house hunting? That's just about beats everything I've ever read....lmaooooo

Well the best of the best comes with a huge frickin wing not a small cf spoiler. That spoiler is no way the best of the best.

I find "just because" to be a perfectly valid reason for buying an ACR. Especially if that's what's gonna make you happiest. Jist having it and knowing it is the meanest machine out there, though it might not be the best for taking your wife to dinner.

My goldilocks would probably be the TA 1.0. More than enough track capability for me. And I love how it looks. And with most of my driving being on the street, it's a better fit for me. Money not being an issue, I would have them both. Some people will have the ACR and barely ever use it on the track and that's what they want. Find what is the best fit for you and go with it. The ACR is a track monster, but that doesn't mean people won't enjoy just driving them on the street. You may not. But it's your money and your comfort. So do what you want.

My thought is if you are concerned about it, you may not like it.
