Exclamation Picked up car from service dept and realized my windshield is cracked

This sickens me where I have a $100k car I take it into the dealer for work that needs to be done due to recalls no fault of my own, it stays there for 10 days I pick it up at 6pm last night, get home and closely inspect it, the windshield has a crack all along where the black antenna is, which is hard to see unless its in the light. I take it to the dealer this morning and he has the nerve to tell me I hit a rock on my 13 mile journey on the way home. I called Dodge customer service and they said they will look into it for me. Really disgusted with this brand at this time.

    Had to vent somewhere

There are a handful of very good dealers. All of which are on this site. All others are always to be watched carefully. Hope you get a good resolution.

Is it possible the crack was there before you took it into the dealership? You indicated it's a little hard to see. I do stuff like that all the time with my cars. I will walk by one and see something, and start losing my s#@t when in all likelihood I'm the one who did it, and it's been there for months and I haven't noticed it

Lochness brings up a good point. That being said - how did it take TEN days for the recalls? My tech did R28, R29, and the door handle in under 3 hours, while I waited!

I hope you can get the window issue resolved. And welcome to the forums, by the way. I see your join date is March 2015, but this is your first post. Welcome.

I'll throw out dealer gripes but I think it would be hard to prove the dealer did it. I'd get it sealed and forget about it.

I doubt that they said that you hit a rock on the way home, more like he suggested that a rock or something hit the windshield to cause the crack.
How do you think they cracked your windshield? Do you know that it is very difficult to crack a stationary windshield. What did they do bounce a part or a wrench off of it and it didn't touch another part of the car? Why was it there for 10 days. The brand had nothing to do with it.

Man I feel you, i am a dealer and we sent a brand new Grand Cherokee to get a Tranny in it(we didn't have a certified tech at the time) and someone hit the car on their lot and they said it wasn't on them. That is dealer specific, not Dodge. Lots of great Dodge dealers across the country.

It was there 10 days as they stated there parts missing even though they told me parts had arrived prior to taking the car there. I'm positive there was no crack it's tough to see in the dark but under light it's readily visible. They supposedly are going to have Chrysler pay for it. Let's see. BTW they did drive it once in front of me so I don't think they dropped something on the windshield.

I always have the service manager do a walk around, annotate any marks on the vehicle and what the mileage is prior to them taking custody. Both parties sign and date the paperwork. We took our new Grand Cherokee to get the oil change and when we came back to pick I up there was a chip in the paint on the front passenger door. The dealer fixed the door, no questions asked but I learned my lesson. I figure if the dealer has me do the same thing when they give me a loner it wouldn't hurt doing the same for my car.

Good advice...will use it going forward.

OP, All dodge dealerships in my area have shown me incompetence on every visit i have done. I am not suprised at all they didn't have all your parts ready for the service.

I just walk around the car and film it now with my phone at the drop off. Cameras are so good it'll pickup anything.

Also mention that they shouldn't wash your car after service, etc. All the swirl marks in my Jeep GC are from the dealer...
