    Vipair coupe conversion finally finished

Car has been in pieces since Christmas. Got jerked around by a painter who took a $500 deposit then closed up shop and cancelled his lease. Finally got the parts back (damaged) after 6 weeks but no money-yet. Sent parts to my regular painter, 2 guys spent a week getting the Vipair rear end ready for paint. Had to rebuild the forward radiused edge of both quarter panels where they meet the door due to large voids, more resin than glass. Guy spent a day and a half on the INSIDE of the trunk lid before we pulled the plug. Picked up the parts Friday and now she is done. Pictures don't do it justice and I am no shutterbug, but here are a few. Thanks to Rocket for his advice/expertise. Unlike him, I will not be doing this again! Far as I know, this is the only GTS-R front/Coupe conversion rear so far. Things balance out nicely I think.

Nice. I would love to see some more pics.

Like maybe some straight on from the front, see how that front comes together with the rear.

And painters are notoriously unreliable. I think it's the fumes. Glad you got it straightened out.

Came out great. It is a much better look than the regular vert rear.

Thanks guys, realization of yet another dream - one i didn't think likely since the parts have been out of production for a couple of years. Scored the kit of ebay and had to throw the bumper away, it was sooo badly made. Replaced the bumper and small filler parts with OEM. Lights were all new except right taillight, which was ebay. Here's a few more pics.

Just finished the inside of the trunk, probably how all vert trunks should be. Aluminum panel wrapped in carpet, coupe srt closeout panel cut down to fit, this part is cheap and can be made to fit any vert trunk with a little cutting/drilling for push pins, I think it was $20 from Mopar. led trunk illumination light (lense is from an old Vette I once had). Switch is burried inside forward lid bump stop. Have a 6x6 Silver viper logo I am going to mount in middle of carpeted lid panel.

sidwin, you are wrong. After the bumper was installed, wife and I did the three week U.S. trip we do every year. As luck would have it, we stayed in the French quarter for three days. I nearly shit myself. I have NEVER witnessed roads that bad. BMW's and Mercedes with the front air dams torn off. Trolley tracks torn up through the heart of the Quarter - I had to drive a long way before I could find somewhere to get over them. To add some fun, it rained most of the time, so once the potholes are full, you have no idea how deep they are. I was bitching to the Hotel clerk and she laughed, saying the roads were worse where he sister lived. Long story short, a few bangs when I was sure I had done some damage but after inspection, not a scratch. Leaving New Orleans it was raining again and the ramp to the Interstate was closed. Did a legal U turn and got on the gas too much and it became a 270. The front bumper was inches from the concrete curb. We decided we have no reason to visit NO again.

Great looking setup. The car pulled together nicely. I am very jealous though, I had ordered the conversion kit early on but after repeated months long delays it was past the season and I had intentions of selling the car. Wish I had gotten a chance to see it through!

Guy I bought the kit from waited 9 months for it and when he got it he was so disappointed that he returned the car to stock condition and put the parts in his barn. A year later he listed them on ebay, and got $800 back. Win for me, but the bodywork was $2500 and the replacement OEM bumper was $700. Worth every penny and a bargain at that.

WOW - turned out great - and well worth the headaches and hassles of getting everything to fit!

Nice finishing touches on the trunk lid - may have to do something similar.

Now get out there and drive!

Hey John, coming from the master of conversions, I definitely take that as a compliment. I shot you an email regarding trunk lid struts. I know you had the same issue and was wondering what strut you installed. I actually ordered 2 strongarm struts this morning so I am hoping they will have the balls to lift this thing. It's kind of surreal that 4 years after seeing pix of your conversion and drooling over it, I have completed my own. The stars had to align, and they did. Thanks for the help.
