How big of a risk...

The Bonjour Viper family,

I would like to hear what you guys think about this.
My upper rad hose cracked right at the thermostat elbow's edge. To temporarely fix the leak, I moved the hose/crack 1/8 of an inch higher on the thermostat elbow so the crack would be on the elbow. Put tape and 2 clips back, refilled with coolant.
Started the car, let it get to operating temperature at idle, waited two fan cycle, went out for a 5 minute test ride....no leaks, temperature gage in the normal zone.
Since my new hose will not be here before June 15, since I am going crazy looking at the nice riding weather and a beautiful red 1997 R/T 10 sitting in my garage...I am wondering...
How big of a risk would it be for me to take my car out and go ride??
Would you guys go out with that type of temporary fix??
Of course I would not go for a cross country ride but for a couple of hours ride around town...

Ben, If it's not leaking you're probably fine but, as you said, long trips probably aren't a very good idea.

Just keep a close eye on the temp gauge and it should be fine. If you moved the crack up onto the sealing surface, I doubt it will start to propagate again before June 15th.

Thanks for your advice fatboy18....lol...but express shipping+border fees+exchange rates+taxes was almost more expensive than the part itself.
And didn't know not driving my Viper for 3 weeks was going to be that hard...lol
I will go out and drive and keep it casual and most important, get my fix of Viper Venom.

My hose bust last last weekend at exactly the same place, I got a used one from a mate in the VOA, and having just spanked my car over 3 days doing massive burnouts and crowd displays its holding fine, I have ordered fast red silicone hoses to replace the originals.

You did all that work, might as well replace the darn hose.. Fixing a broken hose does not make sense unless you are stranded on the roadside. Which I predict you will be very soon, but with an un-repairable hose this time..

If it bursts and you get anti-freeze all over the engine, that's going to be a difficult cleanup job and it may stain your engine. I would hold off on driving it until you can properly fix it.

Ordered it from eBay. Sellers is from Pensylvania (go pens go) state but with all the paper work (custom, taxes) I guess it is what it is.
Didn't know I was gonna miss driving the thing that much...lol
Should be in by the end of the week...I hope.
Decided I was gonna wait untill it's fixed before driving it.

First bad experience with eBay...and it had to be on a viper part.
Just received my Mishimoto hoses from boneheadperformance (the eBay wholesaler located in Pennsylvania) and the upper one looks way too short in lenght(almost 6" to short on the rad side). Didn't remove mine because the difference looks so big. Don't wanna go into the assle of doing the job just to confirm it is too short. I am waiting on a solution from boneheadperformance.
I was wondering if any member ever use Mishimoto on there gen2.
Wondering if I am just not lucky or I am missing something.
One thing is sure, I am missing my Viper, it's been 2 weeks since I had a ride, going crazy here...

Plenty of people have used Mishimoto. I have a set in my parts room right now matter of fact. Maybe I need to get them out and take a look at them lol.

Seems like you and me are having the same problems, I ordered a set of hoses from a company in the UK, I am doing a 1000 mile trip tuesday and wanted the hoses before I left for Le mans, the company called me friday and I drove up to the company to pick up the hoses, I asked for them in RED they had made Black! then to add to the frustration they were GEN3 hoses not GEN II

I've got to get a set of these at some point. While my hoses look great, might as well prevent the problem. Seems like it's not a readily available part anyway.

Some of those prices are insane though. $230 to $385 (complete set including heat hoses) seems crazy. I'll have to do some homework.

The "complete set" sets are Gen 1. The Gen 2 sets are just the main upper and lower hoses.

Ordered Mishimoto upper and lower hoses from Roe last year and they were a perfect fit.

6 piece late Gen2 heater hoses from Snake Oyl are going on tomorrow.

here are 2 photos to show how too short it is.
Just got news...my local Dodge dealer can have oem upper hose(delivery time 5 days). Funny, first time I called it was the "too old, back order for sure" answer. I guess the desk guy didn't want to take the time to do the research...lol
I will ask to have my money back and ship the Mishimoto back and get the oem.
Now, THE question, i'm guessing the hose will be 15-20 years old. Do you think the rubber will be dry and maybe risk another crack in a couple of years??
Personnally, i would guess not since it was probably stored indoors away from sunlight and heat.
