Cool Transporting a ACR-E ..Need tie down help, and the correct way to transport it.

Just wanted to find out the correct way to transport the ACR-E..I elected to take the $ 800 credit and find transportation myself... My car is ready for pick up at Conner in a few day ( just got the call from James today that it is done, vin # 505) and just want to make sure the carrier that I choose ties down the car correctly....I have heard that the proper way to hold down the ACR is tire straps over the wheels, and not through the wheels..was not sure if this matters...also is it best to put car in neutral with he emergency brake fully on.... Anyway any feed back on transporting it would be very helpful from guys that have transported there cars,,,dont want to mess up my car...I was planning on using Reliable but they might not be available when I need the car picked up and I my need to use a different enclosed carrier....Thanks again for the feedback...Ralph

This might be a stupid question but if the destination charge listed on the sticker is normally $2,495 why do you only get an $800 credit for picking the car up at the factory? What is the other $1695 paying for?

Forgot to mention that pretty much the standard way to tie down any low height car i.e. sports car during transport is using over the wheel straps. You will find that all of the major carriers i.e. Reliable, Intercity etc. etc. all strap their cars down that way.

This is covered quite a few times on the forum already. Use the search function and you'll be surprised what is already here

so you bought a $120K+ car but decided to assume a whole bunch of hassle to save $100?

No he decided he want a Plant Tour of Conner Avenue before it shut down , so he could see the legendary birthplace of his Viper. He got a discount on the vehicle instead of an almost $1000 extra charge to pick up a Vette at their Plant/Museum, and he will get a royal welcome by the workers in Detroit.. Get Reliable to ship for you , as they know how to tie down all ACRs -- they ship all of them anyway.

Sounds like a dream , not a hassle.

Hey, why not make the drive down? It's actually a beautiful drive through parts of western Tennessee and Kentucky on the way down. Ohio sucks, but there are also some damn fun roads in rural Georgia headed southbound from Atlanta.

I've made the whole trip a couple of times and done legs to/from Georgia twice now with the car. It wouldn't be stressful to break it into two or three days. Hell, I've done the full ride in a single day, but you'll be breaking it in on the way so you're not breaking 85.

In all honesty, enjoy the delivery at the plant. I wish I had the chance to do it. It's not about the money; also sometimes when you're waiting weeks on end for shipping you start getting antsy, so I would be all for picking it up too.

    Cool

Bill Pemberton you are exactly right ... Your words are so true...I cant wait to thank everyone for creating such a iconic car at the Connor plant...Also I live about 500 miles from my dealership that I ordered the car from and if I would have went with the included shipping to the dealer I would have had to still have Reliable ship the car from the Dealership to my home at a price of $1000....It is actually cheaper for Reliable to ship straight to my home from Conner...And I am so looking forward to the plant tour...CPINFDP you got me thinking of driving the car home, I am just pressed for time..Darn it...It would be fun...Thanks again for all the input...Skydeals
