Just want to add a tip for removing broken studs from aluminum heads/blocks. Worked on military equipment manufacturing and working on expensive CNC aluminum components at present job. Broken screws can cost a lot of money if the affected product needs to be scrapped. You make a funnel out of wax around the culprit bolt, pour muriatic acid into it, covering the bolt. The acid seeps down to the threads only attacking outer portion of the thread, making it easier to remove. The acid will not damage aluminum in a short period, only steel. Even tool steel like taps can be remoed with this method.

Good tip but what is muriatic acid? Where would one purchase it?

Hydrochloric acid, any pool/pool maintenence store should have it. At least here they do. Sell it by the gallon,

I realize you live in England, but a pool is effectively a large tub of water built into the ground that some people have at their houses. It is fun on sunny days.
--sunny days are days when the sun, which is the star that our planet rotates around, is not obscured by clouds.

If you would like to learn more about pool or sunny days, there is always a room for you here at my place in Arizona. : )
