    98 GTS-R under 10K miles!

I found a GTS-R with under 10K miles asking $85K for it. SO I am thinking of selling the GTS I just bought and make a play for the GTS-R to match my White ACR=E! What the hell should I offer?

If that's the one in Kansas I believe it's been for sale at that price for quite a long time. I suspect he has been offered $75K and turned it down, but don't know. I think that would be fair. Best source for a value would be Bernie at Viper Exchange, he bought mine some years ago and still knows the market well. Would be nice if it had disposable camera, all lithographs, car cover, etc.... Good Luck, I miss mine.

GTS-R? Do you mean a White Blue striped GT2? OR a genuine GTS-R Race car?

As I'm sure you know, he's referring to a GT2. That being said, they are continually called, by many, as GTS-R's, and every decal on the car says GTS-R, even listed that way by Barrett-Jackson.

Have to say, I always find it confusing!
That price seems quite good, would you have to pay auction fees on top of that price? I have never been to a car auction so don't know how it works?
Advert says the car is sold?

My friend who i run with most times in the UK has car No52 of 100

He was just linking to an old auction result as an example of how the car is mis-identified (look at the first line item next to the photo: Scottsdale 2014)
Like you, I don't like when a replica or commemorative edition street car is mislabeled as the real thing even if the rest of the description is correct.

As far as price, Barrett-Jackson and others charge a fee to the seller and a fee to the buyer. It depends on the venue. B-J has been reported to be as much as 10% to seller and 10% to buyer. On top of that they charge the seller an extra flat fee for selling the car at a premium time, like Friday or Saturday evening.

So, that $85,800 auction price (includes the buyer's fee on top of what was the price bid) could have actually netted the seller less than $69,000.

That's the car. GT2 GTS-R. Whatever. Thought about trying to trade him the 98 untitled one for it and cash as that car is an easier sell.

I'd love to have one of those but it's a real conundrum. I'd have to sell my GTS which I love to drive and then add a lot of cash to buy a car that I wouldn't drive much at all but that doesn't make we want one any less.

This. Pay a bunch more for a car that won't get driven. Oh Well.

Buy it because YOU like it, its a car, a stunning car, drive the hell out of it, your only here once it will still hold its price above stock vipers because of what it is.

Why bother keeping the miles down for someone else?

That car was available a few months ago for $79K if it is the same one I am thinking about. I think it had all the goodies with it as well.

Seeing #18 with 421 miles sell for $90k at Mecum hurts this one with 10k miles....

Agreed: Not sure what seller's fees were as he probably had reduced fees as he was selling 21 cars, but, at best, he probably received $85K

GTS R. You guys can call it whatever you'd like..
    It's still a GTS R...

    Exact Correct Title of Car

To be exact; per my window sticker and build information; it is a 1998 Viper GTS Coupe with the 'GT2 Champion Edition Group' Option.
Does not mention GTSR in the written materials; but a serialized dash plaque, in/on the seats, various exterior panels, windshield, etc. denotes it as a GTSR. This was a $15K option group that took the base GTS from $70,200. to $85,200.

Absolutely technically correct. But you'll never convince people not to call it a GTS-R, when it says it (from the factory) all over the car, lol.

Crazy that after 18 years, they are barely worth what they sold for new and that's only if it is a pristine example with under 1K miles on the clock. One sold a couple years back on the other forum for $80K and it had under 100 miles on it. Guess that seller took a bath on the car. In any event, I would love to have one and would buy one if the right car presented itself.

I once saw an interview with Donald Osborne (I believe it was him at least). He is somewhat of an expert in automobile valuation. Basically, he said that unless the car's value is over 100k when you buy it, the odds of it accruing in value rapidly are very low. I think Vipers will be valuable one day but we might still be 10-15 years away from that.

I think the Gen V special/final edition throw back to this car is outstanding. To see the Gen 2 version still worth what it sold for 18 years ago is something I'd be fine with if the same occurred on the new one. The press release photo hasn't pictured the decals and badging mentioned in the written description yet. Can't wait to see what she looks like in all of her glory.
