Awesome thanks for posting
gotta love those a-10's
Bruce
A-10:
Engineers: "Where do we put the nose gear? There's no room with the gun sticking out the front."
Generals: "Sorry fellas, the gun stays right where it is...figure out a way to make it work."
I'm glad your on our side......lol !
I spent 12 years maintaining hogs. The redundnacies they put into that plane to make sure it would still fly after being damaged was a masterful piece of work.
I wish I could have shared some of birdstrike (vultures & geese) pics that I had to repair. Massive wing, engine and tail damage but like a TIMEX WATCH, it took a lickin and kept on tickin.
I'm currently doing a job not far from there. It's awesome seeing them fly over our work site.. and very welcome. I get a since of pride every time they fly by!!
poster worthy pics!
Thanks for posting.
You should hear it go off in person...my first assignment as a young 2LT in the Air Force put me in an office directly across the street from the firing range at Eglin where they tested that gun (usually dismounted from the aircraft). Every once in a while, you'd hear a massive "BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT" that would shake the building...there's nothing else that sounds quite like it. I managed to snag two of those dummy rounds and gave them to my dad and brother as Christmas presents...oddly enough, they won't give you the depleted uranium rounds that are actually used.
I would imagine you would feel the concussion wave in your chest if that thing was going off within miles of you. What does it sound/feel like to the pilots I wonder?
Thanks for the insight, Steve M.
