    Need tires for 1994

We have 3 guys who can't find tires for their 1994 Viper, these are restored Vipers and they want to keep the original 17' wheels.

    Size needed is :

    Front: 275/40-17
    Rear: 335/35-17

What are the tire options ?

Tire Rack shows the 275s in stock , but the 335s are special order through Michelin. Contact our old friend Luke Pavlik, ext. # 4362, for info on what can be done.

How in the heck are Falkens going to work when they don't even show a 17 in any 300 width with the 615K?

Tirerack is your only choice (or anyone who deals with Michelin). I recently purchased a set for my 92. I do not think anyone make a rear for that beside Michelin.

You might want to suggest that they upgrade to the SRT rims. Tires are readily available. They look better to:

09 ACR With all the goodies
    99 ACR TT 99 red RT/10 Roe S/C
    97 B/W RT/10 TT 94 RT/10 TT

Blasphemy, the original three-spoke wheel is awesome. Besides, as noted, they don't want to upgrade.

Schulman, there aren't any matching sets out there being produced right now. Maybe in a few months that will get fixed. If they need tires right now I recommend something like the a Toyo R888 for the front, or any tire in that size currently being produced. There are about 30 different manufacturers that make the front tires. And for the rear, it's not an ideal solution but I recommend the Kumho V710. It's available easily but is a street legal race tire. It won't last long, should not be driven in the rain, and may not hold up well to potholes and similar but it will get you down the road on dry smooth pavement rather well. If you can find them, there are still some Pirelli P Zero System Assymetrico out there and Tire Rack says they have a small amount of stock coming in soon.

Bah!!!! My bad, I thought I read "18" in stead of "17".

    They make a 315 in 18 and only a 275 in 17.

    My fault.

Absolutely not a good idea to have two brands of tires ---- especially on an old non ABS car . This is complete foolishness and from Jon B, to us, no one who races a lot , has been sponsored by tire companies, will stress using mismatched tires , and different brands is super nuts. Run a smaller 315 on the rear ( heck that is what Comp Coupes had to run in World Challenge Series ) and that will open a few models , but best to wait for Michelin if you can.

I will also add that the difference between a 335 and 315 is 10mm, which is .39 of an inch. Which is virtually nothing. I've had some 315's that have been way stickier than a 335 or 345.

I was told that Michelin has discontinued making the PS2 tires for Viper 17" and 18" rims. Is that true?

Are you looking for OEM Tires for these restored Vipers ?

  14. #14
I have two sets of NCT rims with the OEM XGTZ tires if you want to retain originality.

  15. #15
Do NOT put XGTZ's on if you plan on driving 1 foot. Call tire rack, or even your local tire shop. The won't list them but they can order PS2's from Michelin or another tire option not listed if they are on back order.

Simple answer -- they are ancient and not really considered safe to be driving on. Probably rock hard enough that Fred Flintstone would be the only one to think they were substantial.

I thought that the PS2 had been phased out. I'm surprised it's still available.

Unfortunately, that wheel size is gonna be a unicorn, IMO. Even though the car is approaching classic age status and there are companies that make oroginal reproductions (for the 60s and 70s muscle cars) I don't know if a tire company can do it for that wheel. It's cost prohibitive. I don't know of anything else that was a 17 and that wide.

If I had one, I would keep the originals for posterity reasons and resale, etc and put wheels froma newer viper on it. Unless it's sitting in a museum, some newer Viper wheels will still look great (I'm partial,to 10 spokes) and then your originals are nice and safe.

I get the predicament and I wish you could just get tires for it but I don't think you can. And as far as I know, mismatching tires is wildly dangerous.

Best of luck! I hope it works out.

Just remember if your going to have a 100 point restored viper you will need original OEM Tires....

I bought new tires for my '95 at Discount tire about 4 or 5 months ago... they didn't have them in stock but they got them for me.

I just bought the last two front from TR for my 93. I found the rears from another source. I do believe they will be or already are discontinued but a call to Michelin would confirm. Good luck.

Please be aware that Michelin, like Pirelli, will make these tire every handful years.
The Lamborghini Countach world has to wait 10-12 years before Pirelli produces a batch of Pzero's. Now, after 30 years, they are going to produce the P7 again. Molds are NEVER thrown away.
So, when you see Michelin produce a run of these tires, grab a set. It will be a few years before they are made again.

As Vprbite mentioned , SRT Wheels in the classifieds and the VOA Deal on Pirelli's is still on and better than the Michelin's !
