    Unusual Delivery Delay?

My car has been in "shipping status" for about 6 weeks now with multiple "estimated delivery date windows" assigned, the last being 22-28 March. I asked the dealer to try to find out what the delay has been suspecting it was getting enough vehicles to fill a truck to the Southwest Region. My dealer just called and told me that he was informed by "SRT" that all Viper deliveries are "on hold". He didn't get any further information. Anybody got a clue?

Does reliable still transport them? Perhaps an inquiry with them would be worth it?

I think it is time for you to have a factory tour and a 1900 mile drive home in your new beast..

Wasn't my favorite option during the Winter months, but it's looking a lot more attractive lately. I kind-of wonder if shipping is the problem, or if there is some other issue that is stopping release of the cars from the factory. Maybe somebody with an imminent factory pick-up will chime in. In any case, if there is a problem needing correction, I would rather have it completed at the plant and not at the dealership.

VIN is 367, ordered 12 Nov. Final assembly completed week of 22 Jan, then off to QC. Initially notified of "truck assigned, estimated shipping date of 24 Feb - 1 Mar". Car has been shown in shipping status ever since with multiple slips in the estimated shipping date. Hope you have a little better luck.

From another owner waiting for his factory pickup, he said they won't complete anymore until the current ones ship out. I'm not sure if weather is preventing the ones ready to ship from leaving, but they won't let him come get his car (it just needs to be cleaned and it will be done).

My car has been "In detail" for weeks now. The shipping delay has put a stop to everything at the plant happening.

SRT wrote me back: Hi Will! The wait during Quality Validation, as well as for shipping, can be the most difficult - the excitement is almost too much to stand! Currently there are a healthy number of Vipers working their way through quality testing - both 1 of 1s and non 1 of 1s. The more they're producing, the longer the testing/validation takes. The more unique the 1 of 1s are, the longer that validation takes as well to ensure that everything - down to the stitching on the parking brake - is accurate. Highly custom hand-built vehicles just take longer. CAAP is diligent in ensuring every Viper gets the attention needed prior to being approved for shipping, and is working as efficiently as they can while still giving that detailed attention. And then there are some that have been approved for shipping, but haven't shipped yet. There is a common misconception that Vipers go from final inspection directly onto waiting trucks, and that just isn't the case. Waiting for shipment can take anywhere from 2 weeks to over a month - that's normal for Vipers, although I know it isn't very comforting. Some might reference an "estimated ship date" from FCA's system that a dealer has shared with them. Unfortunately, that estimation is based on the same timing the mass production vehicles (Challenger, Charger, etc.) uses. It simply isn't accurate, and unfortunately not all dealers are aware of the inconsistency - and share it with customers, unintentionally setting the wrong expectations. CAAP isn't in the business of storing Vipers - they build, test, validate, and ship them as quickly as they're able to. Know that CAAP will get their Vipers to their dealers as quickly as they can. We know it's almost unbearable once you can see the finish line. We guarantee their new Vipers will be well worth the wait!

I feel your pain...wish I could help in some way. Did you see the thread on the differential? It mentioned a diff fluid issue on cars built starting early in 2016, which likely includes your baby. Perhaps your car, when it was pulled for additional QC, was even the one that was responsible for uncovering the problem? You'd hate to take delivery and have an issue almost immediately. So hopefully they're rectifying the issue and ensuring that your car is perfect before it ships.

Thanks! On March 22nd my car went from "shipping status" to "re-bayed at facility". I think that means it was moved from the shipping barn to a bay where repairs are done. That update was on Mar 22nd, but there hasn't been a status update in the dealer's SRT system since then.

    And mine!

Pappy, really crossing my fingers that your car gets sorted ASAP. I remember when my 12C was being delivered, it was one of the very very first 12Cs built, and one of the first 10 shipped to the US. There were soooooo many delays it was killer.

    Pappy--
What color is yours?? ACR?? Extreme?? Stripes?? I'll try to take a picture for you if they let me and if I can find it, and send it to you. Also, if they will tell me, I'll check on the reason for the delay. I'm not doing a plant pick up--just a look see before it's shipped. Mine supposedly will come off the line 4-8. Maybe mine will be the same delayed shipment as the others--not sure--but I'll really try to get some info for everyone--

Thank you. My car is VIN 367 - billet silver, no stripes, ACR with extreme aero. Here is a picture of it at the plant several weeks ago. I suspect they have some kind of QC issue and are probably looking at all of the cars to see which ones are affected. I respect their decision to slow things up if that is the case, but I would just like to have a little more info for piece of mind. A five month wait is becoming a little painful......but for the baddest dog on the porch I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

    Hello,

I know this is a year later, but what ever came of this? It seems like my ACR-E is facing a similar delay. Stuck in KZ without any details.

How many times did the est. delivery date change for you guys? I am at my third time already.

My ACR-E (non 1 of 1) was in limbo for about a month before they decided to ship it. The truck took only 4 days to get from Detroit to San Jose...
My car was in QA basically and then apparently they go into limbo mode for awhile. The car was supposedly ready by end of July (29th) and I got it end of August (the 26th).

I just got an update in the Quality Validation process last week and basically nothing yet been there two weeks plus but I'm fine with that. Rather have it done right! May is fine with me...
