New Viper owner all the way in New York

Hello all, im the newest owner of a 2001 Yellow Gen2 GTS compliments to Bill Pemberton! absolutely love the viper and I thank God everything was able to work out and go smoothly. So far im in love with it but I am gradually getting used to driving a raw-power monster like the Viper. I currently have a storage unit rented out so i can store the car but unfortunately it is not climate controlled. I've been told we dont necessarily have to have a climate controlled garage to store our cars but ofc im sure its more beneficial if it was, I was planning on looking into a customer car cover that dust proof and will keep the car insulated somewhat to make up for the storage unit not being climate controlled. Any advice or suggestions regarding my newely acquired Viper would be appreciated and any advice related to keeping the car somewhat insulated and safe would be awesome as well. Look forward to talking to everyone and learning from you all!

    Regards, Carmelo

Congrats on acquiring your first Viper! Climate controlled storage is nice, but guys up your way will have some thoughts on this. Do you know the service history of your GTS? Age of tires makes a difference in how these cars handle too. Search the Gen 1/2 forums for much info. And have fun!

Consider joining the VOA too...great folks and lots of fun stuff to do!

Congrats Carmelo! Welcome to the madness :-)

What part of NY are you in? We have members all over the state, and just got our schedule planned for events this year - check it out in the NY/CT section of the forum.

My garage has never been climate controled - just four walls with a roof and a locked door. If you have access to something climate controlled I'm sure the car would love it, but it's not critical.

The best thing you can do for keeping the car safe is to keep fresh tires on it - I know you meant in storage, but that's always my top advice... I've never had another car that responded so dramatically to tires (for good or bad).

Enjoy the car and hope to meet you this year!

Carmelo is in good shape for storage ( newer tires on H spokes, and Mark J. and company already gone through the car ) , though we all know that the battery is something that is a weak point with these cars. Suggest he makes sure he starts it , and let's it run , at reasonable intervals. Enjoy my friend and you are in a great area ( strong VOA Club there) ,and you are just an hour or so away from the Viper Wizard -- Chuck Tator , over in South Salem, NY.!!

Congrats and Welcome!! Post some pics!!

We've got a great crew here with a collective wealth of knowledge. We also have a lot of fun events around here.

If you haven't done so already, I would invest in a battery tender when storing. CTEK seems to be a popular brand around here. I have good one, can't remember the brand off hand, but it plugs into the cigarette lighter. It charges the battery and then automatically turns to a trickle/float when fully charged. I've never had an issue starting the car even in the dead of the winter.

I also keep mine in my unheated garage in the winter without issue.

Thank you so much CJ, I dont have the history on hand but as recommended by many viper owners i took Bill's word for it and since i've had it, it seems to be in perfect shape to be honest! Yeah everyone has been telling me tires are a huge factor when it comes to our cars but thankfully it came with fairly new ones Yeah i will definitely consider joining VOA! quite a few people have been mentioning it!

Congratulations. You got a good car. I have worked on your GTS a little in the pass and are friends with the previous owner, so I know for sure that the car was well taken care of!

Beautiful, love the black wheels on the yellow.

Pretty cool you have actual club history on your car here.

I indirectly found my previous owner who traded in my car to buy a Gen 5. Was nice to get a walk down of history and mods.

Weather is getting nicer; it's a good time to own a Viper.
