Car audio: Installing subwoofer in trunk, question about drilling

I've been searching here and elsewhere before drilling and can't find a clear enough answer that makes me comfortable. So apologies if this has been answered and I've missed it:

Is it safe to drill into the trunk floor on a Gen IV? By the looks of things it seems the trunk floor has nothing beneath it.

I want to mount a faux floor of MDF to the trunk floor of my Viper and then mount subwoofer and amp to that piece of MDF for the safest installation possible (eg in the event of a collision, I don't want my amp and sub to go flying around the cabin). Is it safe to drill into the trunk floor? Seems like the gas tank and everything else is ahead of this space.

    Thanks!

You should be just fine...the paneling underneath removes pretty easily, as do the fender liners, so if you really want to take a good look around, take those off and have a look around before you commit to drilling a hole.

But you are correct...there isn't much under there.
