Front Tire Size Recommendations

Looking at ordering a set of R888s, however not sure which size I should go with on the front 18" rims. They are all pretty close in width ranging from 275mm(10.8") to 295mm(11.5"). I know that a wider rim will track more on the street. I don't plan on tracking the car much, and was leaning towards the wider front tire for pretty much looks alone to be honest. However I wanted to get some opinions before I pull the trigger.

Price I found per tire by size:
275/35 - 256.14
275/40 - 334.28
285/30 - 345.61
295/30 - 272.66

Anyone have a preference/reason for going with one over the other? Anyone know where to find a better price? The rears are obviously much more expensive, cheapest I have found so far is 456.66 a tire for a 345/30ZR19 with free shipping.

Call up JonB...He gets the absolute best price on R888's. I went with 275's 35's because there was a short backorder on the 295's last year. When I replace them, probably have one track day left on them, I'm going to go with 295's. I want the wider tire as I'm more concerned about on the track performance.

Definitely call or email JonB and he'll help you decide and probably save you $ too.

Sorry, this is my first experience with Toyos. I immediately noticed the superior grip over the Michelins which were the same size. I'm sure many others are running 295 Toyos up front. Only thing I have negative is increased road noise. But I haven't noticed that since my car is loud anyway.

I have the 285s (from JonB) on my GTS because I have 11" (1" wider than all stock wheels) VR1 rims and JonB said the car will handle better (more balanced) with the wider tires. Unfortunately, my car is lowered and the 285 30 18s lower the car even farther than the 275 35 18s and my bumper rubs quite often now.

Jon is correct about the car's handling as I also have 2 sets of CCW road racing wheels and both are 12" fronts (13" rear wheels) with 1 set being 305 wide and the other set being 315 wides with 335 on the rear.

If your car has wider than stock wheels get the wider fronts. Best to keep the stock ride height tho. Car handles best when both front and back corner equal which means wider would work better, depending on wheels width and ride height of courseIMG_3897 (1024x562).jpg

Awesome! So far I think we are leaning towards the 295. We don't mind the tracking on the street and we would rather have the bigger tire in case we want to hit a road course.

Great, thanks for the info! We have a set of sidewinder 2s on the way I read they were 10.5 up front and 13 in the rear so that's also why we were thinking of going bigger up front.

As stated earlier, JonB knows best. He has vast racing experience and is an accredited TireRack dealer. He's the expert and he would know all the specs on your car, the wheels, tires and what ride height is best for what you do. I'm just repeating what he told me with my experience.

If you measured your stock fronts as 10.8" you measured OUTSIDE because stock is 10". Usually wheels are measured from the inner bead on the one side.

Thanks, I'll give JonB a call and check on his prices. Also just to let you know, I didn't measure I got the specs from the Viper site below which states "18.0 x 10.5 — front, 19.0 x 13.0 — rear" as the wheel sizes.

Yes, call JonB. I have a lot of knowledge about a lot of things but I always defer (well almost always) to the experts.

I'm running the Sidewinder 2s with 295s; that size is great for that wheel. They do grab road grooves, but not much more than the stock size that I've noticed. Plus the 295s give a little bit of a rim guard instead of a slightly stretched look.
