    Gen II frame recall

Which year GenII needed the frame welded with supports. Looking to get into a GENII soon and wanted a little info on what to look for.

It's the 998 recall, for '96-'99. It's necessary on a track car, not as critical on a street car because they aren't subjected to the loads a track car typically sees.

That is what I am trying to avoid, one that was done incorrectly. What is the best way to tell if it was done right.

On the gussets, the triangle looking plate should be installed on the front part of the frame, not directly under the backside where the oil filter is.

As I remember, the 999 recall included 2000 model year Vipers.

Well if they put the car up on a ramp it will be real easy to see if its been done or not!

If it isn't done it still qualifies to be done. I had an inexperienced tech to mine the only part he did wrong, the braces are supposed to be either welded or riveted he did both.

Its still important for a street car but a MUST for a track car. This was a more recent install. The originals were riveted in:

Mine was done incorrectly on the front. Had the metal trimmed about a 1/4 circle to make access to the filter by the advice of some on here. Took about 20 mins. with a jig saw and looks clean. Didn't feel like messing with getting it re-done. No I did not do it lol.

The frame in your Avatar has the bracing, you can clearly see the triangles in the correct position

I've never actually seen them before. Now I understand why it's so easy to do wrong...

You would think common sense would tell you not to weld a plate over the opening for the oil filter lol

If they're installed incorrectly/backwards and cover the oil filter housing, i'm not sure they are offering any form of benefit since they are intended to brace and triangulate the framerails forward of the power steering rack. There are already small triangulated braces going from the cross beam rearward, so installing the braces backwards (on top of those diagonal braces) is just redundant.

If mine hasn't been done, can I still take it in for the recall or am I S.O.L.?
