NEW world's Fastest Viper (GTS of course)

Sal Patel's old World's Fastest Viper or all time record in his street car was surpassed this month by a 97 Viper TT GTS. Sal ran a 6,98ET

Lutz Race Cars ran this 97 GTS TT stock block'd 1800whp American Racing Technologies (ART) in Florida with a 6.78@211mph pass. Congrats to David Weaver and Todd Nelson as well as Jeff Lutz for the new record!1997-dodge-viper-05 World record Viper.jpg1997-dodge-viper-07 ART, world's fastest.jpg

ART built this car at the same time as they built my TT GTS.

Not to downplay the great run but pretty sure this car has a solid rear axle and not IRS.

WTF... You don't know the difference in performance between IRS and straight axle in a drag car?

Like I said. not putting the great run down.

Yeah I know the difference. I have 2 twin turbo Vipers.

Todd Nelson didn't have anything positive to do with this build.

Didn't this car start its life as SW's red all motor car which was then turboed by Boost Logic?

Yes. It started life as a Roe build then big N/A followed by a TT build you see below, followed by the finished product you see at the bottom...

    Before an after comparison...

So what? I mean, that's barely half the time that mine runs the 1/4.

Really that is crazy fast. I mean lightning fast. You say "street car." Does that make it street legal? Though is it brutal to drive on the street because of the mods? I can't even imagine what that feels like to the quarter that fast.

That car with that turbos out of the hood is in a picture of my TT GTS at ART. David Weaver (of ART) is also mentioned in "rebuilding/freshening" this car again.

I agree that the car squats on launch and must be a solid axle. Solid axle means tube chassis as the double rail doesn't allow a solid axle into the car, not to mention the way the tires fit inside the car and the car's ride height. Definitely not a street car.

I believe the article said under 1800whp, although it looked as though the front tire was off the ground the entire quartermile'

Not sure if the car could be run in the Halfmile because of the tires. Far as I know the tire need to be Radials?

In the mile the tires are required to be zr up to 220mph and the Hoosier R6s I was told were rated to 240mph. When I phoned Hoosier, Goodyear and Shelby they said that wrinkle slicks are not to be used for over 200mph and wrinkle slicks are unsafe for halfmile and mile. Not sure of the tires situation but I will be buying the much taller drag radial slicks that are on all the fastest Halfmile cars and I've changed to Wilwood brakes and reshaped and welded my inner wheelwells to fit those tires. Not allowed to post the free How To on VOA forums so you can PM me if you want the links to how and what I did to fit as large as 15" x 14" x 31" tires on my GTS. Redoing front Gen 2 brakes to rear and reshaping the nner tubs and frame to fit CCWs with Hoosier 14.5 x 16 x 28" Quick Time Pro slicks without the rubbing at speed.

1800whp at anywhere near 3000-3200lbs won't run 211mph, they turned it up for that. I'm sure it dyne's at 1800whp and then they lean on it during passes, just like most drag racers do.

I don't think it's anywhere near 3000+# as it has a tube chassis from the pictures I saw. Closer to 2600# would be my guess. Not sure why he'd post under 1800whp unless it was under?

It was at 29psi on the dyno and 32psi on that run. So you are only talking 3psi difference.
