    Holidays, Drinking and Driving...

With the Holidays upon us I would like to share a personal experience with my Viper friends and family about drinking and driving.
As you may know some people have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a "social session", or out with friends.
Well, two days ago I was out for an evening with friends and had several beers followed by some rather nice red wine. Feeling jolly, I still had the sense to know that I may be slightly over the limit.

That's when I did something that I've never done before - I took a cab home.

Sure enough on the way home there was a police road block, but since it was a cab they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident.

This was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before, I don't know where I got it, and now that it's in my garage, I don't know what to do with it.
Should I call the number on the side or just ditch it somewhere?

Happy Holidays everyone, and be Safe!
    Mike

As someone who spent many a holiday holding the hand of an accident victim, sawing off the top of a car, putting out a fire in a chimney or two, very good word of advise.

I like the story. I am going to put taxi on the side on my truck now. What could go wrong?

    Nice one.

Have to say the whole dynamics of social life in the United Kingdom now has totally changed over the last 10 years.

Many countryside pubs have closed down due to people from out of the areas no longer being able to get to them There are no buses that use the rural roads, so someone always had to drive.

Its a sensitive subject, In my younger days we would meet in one pub then drive out to a couple of country pubs most evenings, you would have friends in the car who would be drinking but the driver was also allowed at least 2 pints of Beer. Smoking was also allowed inside the pubs. Over the years the drink drive alcohol limit has been reduced and reduced again, its been confusing for drivers to know the correct limit as alcohol affects people in different ways. It would be easier if they just said NO Alcohol.
Smoking was then banned from pubs, with people now having to smoke outside the pub in the rain or other weather. Some pubs tried to cater for evening food but many found it hard to adapt and sadly have closed down. Its a real shame, and now many people do not bother going out and stay indoors and drink there. Socialising on the internet has also taken over. Where I live the roads in the evenings are very empty of cars. I know in places like Sweden there is absolutely No drink driving.

Anyway, I wish you all a Very Happy and Safe Christmas and New Year.

I love drinking and driving, just this morning I had a large cup of coffee on the way to an appointment.

I would never drink and drive EVER. A friend of mine was killed around Christmas as a teenager by a drunk driver while he was driving home from church.

Sweden is BAC of .02 max or you're in deep trouble. Here in North Carolina, BAC is .08 and there are roadblocks from time to time. I agree with BigBadViper about not driving after drinking.

The OPs story is very funny!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

If i even dream of a glass of wine or a beer at whatever venue I'm headed to, i drive the passat. Made a steadfast rule to myself, not a drop of a alcohol when behind the wheel of the snake. I almost think people drive worst in the first couple of drinks when they feel happy, relaxed, but still feel in control; Thats usually when the stupid stuff occurs--"oh here's an opening let me lay into it". After they know they are impaired in some capicity they start really paying attention behind the wheel. Of course that is quickly followed by being too impaired to drive, period. I usually try to stay off the roads during holidays, i just feel like everyone on the road is drunk.

My first call as a vol ff. Centerville NY, helping the priest give last rights to a drunk driver. He went off the road, flipped the car. Landed roof down in a swamp. Water was up mid door on the drivers side. No way anyone was going to reach him in time.
