Bonjour,

I'm surprised to read a thread like this on a Viper forum.
I consider myself a new owner (2 years of ownership only), you guys have no idea how important and helpful the "boring /redundant" threads are for me (and tend to think every newbie like me).
I think the way the site/association is working is great, room for everyone and most importantly, respect for eveyone.
Please keep it like that.

I think the Gen V forum is more exciting these days, with all the new performance developments, but would argue that the other Gen forums are more valuable. Especially since the cars are out of warranty.

I'm on a Hummer H1 forum, which hasn't seen a vehicle produced since 2006, so the newest truck is 10 years old. As they age, and parts get harder to come by, and people who knew how to work on them fade into the distance, the forum becomes more important than ever. Not exciting, but important.

I think the members viewing number is skewed towards the Gen V section because that's where all the action is lately, and would bet most other Gen owners peruse this section because of that. I wouldn't assume that the numbers viewing represents owners as much as viewers.

As I understand it, the biggest issue on the Gen Vs is that butlers tend to miss the latte holder when cleaning. So be careful cause that can cause problems down the road. Especially if it spreads to your lipstick holder or neck massager. The easiest fix is to take a sock or a large microfiber cloth, fill it with nickels, and hit your butler with it. That seems to stop it from happening without damaging your latte holder.


Ok for the record, im pretty sure FTV was just teasing when he started this thread. I don't think he meant anything and was just having some fun. I also think that's that LifeIsGood meant when he asked if he was trying to start something. Just good natured ribbing.

I however do reserve the right to get my club with nails in it and have this generational rumble out! As I said, it's so on.

That's not a lipstick holder, although it is meant to fit something slightly similar in shape. BlackSnake99 knows exactly what I mean. Spent all afternoon Saturday breathing in unburnt fuel vapors and cat-less exhaust fumes in his Roe supercharged GTS, and he wouldn't shut up about missing my "lipstick" holder in the Gen V the entire drive.

I'm glad to see so much, umm, generational pride. But I really think this whole thread was started as a goof. Sorta like when I tease someone about their car not being as good as a red one.

I can only speak for the people I have interacted with but none of the gen V owners I know have been jerks about it nor do they think they are better than I am with my Gen III. And they take my teasing about their cruise control and such quite well.

30 NEW VOA members. These are not renewals. In RED.
99 VOA renewals. In GREEN.

92-95 6 10 = 16

96-02 6 38 = 44

03-06 3 24 = 27

08-10 5 15 =20

13-16 10 12 = 22

Total 129

Mind you, these figures I calculated are just from the last 19 days (Jan1-19). IF this trend is representative...... I think we have pretty good balance of all generations of Vipers in the VOA. This doesn't take into consideration of multiple older generations owned by an individual owner. I just took the one that is listed on their membership.

Andy, is true the Dfw club it has no affiliation to any national club, and the few members of the voa north Texas club they have nothing going on in north Texas I'm doing the south Texas twisted sister run with the south Texas voa club next week and can't wait to spend some time with some old friends that just love the viper. Don't be surprised if I show up to some of the Houston events and have some fun with you guys. As for north Texas we have over 150 members that want nothing to do with the national clubs and the bs that they have to endured over the last few years. I think everyone up here just wants to enjoy their cars and start having fun like we used to in the hole state of Texas viper round up style!.

That is all new news to me too. I seem to remember the ringleader Greg Crouse not being open to much thinking unless the thinking was VCA positive.

Yeah, the issue with the "North Texas" VOA is that it is located in East Texas. I live pretty far east of the DFW Metroplex, and the North Texas VOA is located over 100 miles due east of me. Most of their activities require a 4 hour round trip drive for us that actually live in north Texas.

Actually their territory spans the entire North Texas geographical territory including about 13-15 owners in Amarillo so they're stretched pretty thin. Wayne and Eric try to plan events in the DFW Metroplex area just for the reason you point out. How about jumping in and helping them plan some events that are more centrally located?

Not sure that's accurate. Not going to comment on the old club as we're tired of addressing untruths (that frequently affect us), we do often get most of our members who join from there who realize there really isn't a "local" club in most areas and that the VOA has the vast majority of local regions that are actually active. This is common. As for the VOA North Tex, I'm looking at their website: http://texasvipers.com/

They seem to have had a good list of events in 2015 and already began populating 2016. Website looks VERY well run. Whether is north or east can indeed be an issue if you're not looking to drive, all depends on where their events take them. The IL region for instance has people outside of the STATE, many of them, participate frequently. So just because it's not in the area, doesn't mean it's underserved. We're not driving corvettes, don't have 100,000 members to cover all territories. So it's not the club, it's the density of Viper owners and whether they choose to congregate that determines this (and whether they click).

As for forum posts, it's up to that regions members, some clubs (especially small) may not have a big contingent of forum posters. And we all know a forum is only as good as it's participation, that why our main forums thrive. So often a forum is dead or it's hot. Some regional ones just don't take hold, and I wouldn't want them to be ashamed of it. Despite losing an opportunity to reach people, I know many examples of regions who are extremely happy and thriving - because most of their interactions are in person...

You've added the statistics to support my gut reaction to the OP's question which is - We need to stop assuming the internet forum and the club membership are the same thing. Many club members never even open the forum. Many forum posters never become club members.

I would love to see greater excitement among those active posters to join their local clubs (through VOA in almost all cases) in real life, rather than greater excitement among owners of older Gens to chat on the internet.

But it makes sense that much of the recent discussion revolves around the new generation. It's the one setting track records and getting 'news' coverage. It's the one being ordered and delivered and photographed. It's the one being tinkered with for the first time by excited HP experimenters, etc...

Forum life is very different from the active club goers. And I'll also add, having visited several different regions events over a long period of time, I've never seen any segregation or malice between different gen owners. While I know the OP intention here wasn't to have that debate that ensue, Slated's comments hit the nail on the head.

We have very live forums here, but it's actually not completely correlated to what actually happens out there. And both are important for the same reason - enhancing ownership and getting people together (albeit differently).
