    Street-Track tire for Gen V

I am currently using Nitto NT-01 for my other car which I use in street and track duty with no issues here in Seattle. I can't set any lap records but it doesn't disappoint either.

I used Toyo r888 before and it was ok for street use but I had issues at the track. It needed some warm up and after that I could only get a few laps in before I had to cool down the tires.(I usually run at Ridge Motorsports Park which is not that hard on tires) I saw some recommended this tire for the Viper but did anyone had the issues I am describing with them? I am trying to understand if r888 improved over the years or if it is a difference of driver/environment.

Do you guys have any other recommendation for street-track use tire?

The Corsa is a good all around R compound tire but is biased towards street. It's good but not outstanding on the track. It will last a long time.

The ACR's Kumho V720s are outstanding for the track and are fine for the road, closer to an NT01 or R888 but will blow them away at the track. You'd have to run 19s in front though. They will wear out faster with the reward of amazing track performance.

Thank you for the reply. I read about the ACR Kumho v720s but was disappointed to see they don't make front size for 18s. (I actually sent Kumho an email with no response ) I would rather not change the wheels but might have to do that if there is no other option. I do have the Corsa but I have a 2013 leftover car(recently purchased) so I am not sure how the tire will perform after sitting around for 3 years.

The pilot sport cups are no longer made in the viper sizes.

There aren't many options. MPS2 (not a track tire), Toyo, Nitto, Pirelli. All I am aware of.

The ACR tires are really that great, no benefit to a tire swap?

I've ran a few tires on my Gen 5, can compare them for you.

Pirelli Corsa: Excellent all-around tire. Very good in rain and daily driving (surprisingly good). I liked them on track, they gave you plenty of slide warning when they were approaching their limits. Only needed about 3/4 of a lap to heat up.

Michelin Sport Cup 1: Horrible on the street, rock-hard in cool weather. Needed 1-1/2 laps (MSR Houston) and 1 lap (COTA) to heat up. Tires grip very well for about 15-20 min of hard laps, then turn VERY greasy and begin to fade quickly. My fronts faded with no warning.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport: Good all-around tire. I've put 10K miles on a set now, and have tracked them 3 times. They take a full lap to warm up, and surprisingly work pretty well for 20-25 min. Not as much lateral grip as the Sport Cup 1, but impressive. This photo was taken while on Super Sports.

Of all three, I'm liking the Pirelli Corsa the best though. Better in rain than the Super Sport, and equal on the track.

Great feedback Tony! I actually shot you an email a few hours ago before reading this post as I'm doing my HW. I was about to buy a new set of Corsas but really tempted to go with the Super Sports now as I don't track my car and the car will never be in the rain(live in so cal). What sizes are you running on the front and back for your Super Sports?

Can you please give your opinion on how the Corsa's stand up to the R888's from a dig or roll racing? Which is better on street (no rain)?

On a gen iv will be different because no traction or stability, ive seen seen gen iv cars spin on the highway from roll racing

Would get Corsas or Super Sports over the R888s any day ----just to avoid the tons of noise from those crazy tires!

Super Sports will be 285/18 fronts and 345/19s rear --- work really well , and often used by a lot of the guys who run One Lap of America. Price wise , they have an advantage over the Corsa, currently.

Bill, for One Lap I'm actually going to run PS2s in the front in 295/30/18 and PSSs in the rear in 345/30/19. Luke at TireRack recommends this combo. Tread pattern is almost identical but the PS2s (off a Porsche rear) use the Pilot Cup compound and should help reduce understeer. Unfortunately Michelin no longer makes the PS2 in 345/30/19 and they don't make a PSS in 295/30/18.

As you know the first and last events in One Lap are skidpad challenges. One on a dry skidpad and one with the sprinklers running. We run two laps in each directions on a 200 foot skidpad. With the Michelins on my Gen 4 I would finish in the top 10, as high as 6th or 7th. With the PZeros on my Gen 5 I was in the middle of the pack (like 40th). The car simply would not turn with the PZeros, the fronts would chatter and understeer big time. This cost us big time in the overall results. That's why I've changed to the Michelins this year, hoping for a better result on the skidpad.

Now that is some info! (currently shopping for a new wheel/tire combo and have been considering 19/19 Kumhos again this year on my Gen IV simply because the sizing/price works)

When you say PZero, are you speaking of the regular PZero or the Corsa PZero. I currently have the regular PZero's and do not like them.

He was running P Zeroes last yearif I remember correctly. I do not believe the Corsa is eligible , like other DOT Competition tires.

I ran regular PZeros not the Corsas on my 2015 TA 2.0. Corsas are not legal for the One Lap of America, neither are the Kumhos. This is the reason I wanted an ACR-E with steel brakes. I could then switch to 18 inch front wheels.

One other thing. The sizes I'm running this year in One Lap 295/30/18 and 345/30/19 are virtually identical in size to the ACR's stock Kumho setup (295/25/19 and 355/30/19) so I should not have any issues with ESC/Traction.

I think your choice in your particular ACR-E was a very, VERY good choice!!!

I'm eventually going to get a set of SWII's, I do mostly spirited street driving and occasionally will find myself on a track or auto-X. I am trying to decide if I should go Corsa or R888..... First world problems...

I should also mention that I will be going with 3:55's. I live in an area where there are a ton of LS and Mustang guys. I'll be damned if these guys eat up my Viper in a roll race or from a dig. I know that is not what are Vipers are built for but.... I need tires that hook well but will also be decent for the occasional auto-X or even more rare trip to a road course.
