I know there are a lot of folks that used this in earlier generation Vipers and love it.

I have that shifter. It's a very nice piece, but I'll be the first to admit it's pretty expensive for what it is. It took me probably 500 miles before I was able to be really comfortable with the shifting vs the stock ball shifter. It's more of a push and pull feeling IMO. If you have any question with the install, just ask.

I'm wondering is it just an unscrew and screw on type of shifter?

Yes, the original knob unscrews and this one screws on top. However, there is a locking nut below the shift knob to align the knob correctly, and the shift boot may make it difficult to access the locking nut. Most people usually remove or lift up the shifter surround, for easier access to the lock nut/shift knob. There is provision for a wrench around the shift knob, to keep it from rotating when loosening the lock nut.

Awesome shifter! I got one of the last ones with the Viper logo (now prohibited by FCA).

I also have it and love it. It is a bit pricey but worth it imo.

That's not good, mgw made them shifters, the viper store bought out all the stock, I don't think they make them anymore

the guy that runs the place called me a few days after I ordered and said they were just out of stock but more were coming.

I emailed them so we'll see what's up.

Yes it's a good knob. I'v been running mine for a year.
Don't go too low tho as your fingers hit the trim ring in 2nd and 4th.
