    Trading up.

I keep wanting to chase the horsepower. I have a 08 vert in Venom red, no stripes. I have been debating on getting a used gen 5. Currently my gen 4 is lowered a slight amount (eibach springs), acr rotors, Mopar pcm, 28k on the clock, teamtech harnesses (black straps with red stitching) factory nav and sat radio, full Nitrous system (I may opt to remove this, and its only been sprayed 5 times with a very mild wet 100 shot) I'd put this system in a gen 5 in a heartbeat if I got one. The driver seat has been lowered but can also can be put back to stock. I love my vert, but want more power. It seems a coupe may be my next step.

My gen 4 has a clean background and needs nothing.

Any idea what it's actually worth on the market?

I'd love to know your guys's thoughts.

    Andy

    Venom red
    Vert
    Nitrous
    28K miles
All 4 negatives with the general buyers out there.

I like Venom red and the miles don't scare me but I wouldn't touch the vert or the nitrous myself. The usual viper shoppers will harp badly on the miles and the nitrous the most. You can ask any amount you want but I bet actual selling price on the car will be $44-$47k in the spring. If you need to sell now in the winter market then $40-$44k.
This is just one mans opinion that you asked for so take it with a grain of salt, but Ive owned and sold 15 vipers and watch the market like a hawk so I bet Im close on my guess. Best of luck.

I would agree that the vert, nitrous and higher miles are a negative but Venom red is a positive IMO.

Got 50,000 for my GEN III coupe with 10,000 K on the clock. And this was from a dealer while trading up to a GEN V, however that was last year.

Unfortunately, market doesnt agree with your sentiments about Venom Red. Probably the most least liked color of all GEN Vipers. I personally like the color though. I think most who dont like it have probably never actually seen the color in person. That would just be my guess. Either way, like BMW pointed out, the fact that its a vert, is Venom Red, higher mileage and has nitrous are big negatives towards the cars value in the current market. And as Wayne (BMW) said, dude knows his stuff when it comes to the Viper market.

Good luck with the sale, OP.

The Nitrous will probably come out before it gets sold then. It's literally been hit a half dozen times, with a progressive controller with 100 octane in the tank when it was used. Granted, I'll probably just pull it out if I move on to a gen V. I love the metallic red color, especially without stripes, but a lot were made in this color. I appreciate the input guys, and look forward to more.

As stated Venom Red is a great color in my opinion. It's hardly the least liked color of all GEN Vipers based on production numbers. At the same time more Venom red verts were made in 2008 than any other so it's not very rare which does affect supply and demand and thus market value. The only thing close to the Venom Red vert production numbers in 2008 is Viper Black coupes.

I disagree with it being least liked due to production numbers. Production numbers dont tell the whole story. I'd like to hear what Bill P. has to say about this, but I'd venture to say that most were ordered by dealers since it was a new color and no one really knew exactly what it looked like. The market was then saturated with Venom Red cars, and being a color that wasnt so popular, it dropped the cars value compared to other colors/combos.

And Im in agreeance with you that Venom Red is a great color. When its clean and in the sun, wow!

And why is a vert anything negative. So many owners and buyers are waiting on a next vert version Gen5 (if it should ever be produced). At the moment, folks are willing to spend an additional 20K+ for a prefix version. Don't get that at all. Hardtops and softops are different markets and vert lovers wouldn't ever be interested in a hardtop.

lol, it's easy to throw things out there with nothing to back it up. They didn't keep producing the color because it was the least liked color and it wasn't selling. The production numbers don't lie. I do agree with the fact that the high production numbers of the color does affect the market value in a negative way. In a quick statistical analysis based on this thread so far it has a 100% approval rating.

Thats why I'd like to hear what Bill P. has to say, or at least someone who would know.

Here's an true story for you. When I talked to Bill about ordering a GEN V GT he suggested I not order black due to the high production numbers. Is that a black Gen V in your avatar? That's not to say I don't like black Gen V's but there are definitely a lot of them out there. I guess they keep producing them because it is the least liked color.

This discussion is easily solved by looking at past 08 viper sales over the last 2 years. The lowest sold prices on all 08's on average have been Venom Red and the lowest prices of those were Verts. Ive owned a solid VR coupe and loved it. Like Austin pointed out Venom Red when kept super clean and seen in person or pics taken at the proper angles/lighting is top notch sexy. I remember Bill P telling what happened with the Venom Red color the first year. Dealers were ordering the venom red simply because the general consciences with dealers is sports cars in red sell so they of course saw the word "red" and ordered accordingly. Bill P who sells more vipers in history than any dealer will gladly confirm that Venom Red is one of the worst selling colors from true experience more than any of us have. Im not trying to harp on it but the debate has gotten heavy about something that can be backed up with facts from past selling prices.

PS. Wish I had my VR coupe back

get a leakdown test done to prove how strong the engine is right away if youre serious. that should help the "nitrous is bad/damaging" people..

Great looking car Bmw2nv2000! If you look at 2008 production numbers a Venom Red vert had the highest production numbers so it makes sense that on average it would have the lowest sold prices. I still think it's a great color. If you look at a 2008 Venom Red ACR it actually pretty rare having far more Red, Black and Orange ACR's produced. Where are you getting your past 2 year Viper Sales statistics from?

I would say it's a polarizing color. I don't think people are lukewarm about it. They either like it or not.

I think a lot of people would mostly be a little wary of the nitrous. Even though it's not a monsterous shot, people will worry the engine has been beat on. I'm not saying it is, just that buyers may worry.

That is a legitimate worry, and understandable. Leakdown test would help with that, thank you for the suggestion. After consideration, I'd just pull the nitrous out, it would take me a whopping few hours and you'd not know it was there. I'd have to replace the center console cover and that's it. Or find something else to power the switch with. I love this car, I just want faster and more power, and the Gen 5 will do that better for me. I appreciate all the input, and look forward to more.

As for the coupe vs convertible argument... If my car was a coupe, I wouldn't have bought it. My conditions were, VERT, any color other than black, and no stripes. for a Gen 5, I'll be looking for a white one ideally, 2014, with reasonable miles.

Love my VR convertible, matte black sidewinders with carbon accents match well with these colors! Difficult to picture looks 10x better in person.

I recently bought my Gen 3 but was eyeing Gen IVs like a pyschotic girlfriend following her significant other's every move and never saw one come lower than 48k even with 35-50k miles. The cheapest Gen 4 I found was 50k and it had about 40k miles. I looked all over on ebay, autotrader, craigslist, car guru's, carsforsale, manheim and every other car listing site but never saw one come below 48k unless it was in a prior accident, salvaged or had 50k+ miles.

As a past owner of an 08 Venom Red Vert. I must agree with most above that the color is simply striking in the sunlight. Pictures don't do that color justice. Black is black, white is white and red is red. But Venom Red stood alone. There will be a small market out there looking for that color. Unfortunately you have to price it accordingly to get the sale. 28K miles is not much and the Vert is a plus in most peoples eyes. Thus the sales.

Andy, your tread seemed to move directions with a debate about Venom Red. To your opening question/comment; "I keep wanting to chase the horsepower."

A stock G4 is 600 hp and a G5 is 640. If you add a ported intake or upgrade to the G5 version, you'll be at 620. Most if not all of the G5 upgrades are available for your G4.

Doing the math based on a post by "SRT Engineers" in another forum, Venom Red made up 24.76 % of the total 2008 Viper production.

    Take a look: http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/...uction-Numbers
